Veterans Day: Honoring Courage and Sacrifice

David Wasserman, grandfather of our own Ryan Wasserman, served with honor as a medic in the United States military during World War II. To all in our community who have served, or have family members who have served, we offer our heartfelt thanks.

Dear Soundview family,

Thank you to our community for supporting the launch of this year’s Annual Campaign. Your generosity ensures that Soundview can continue offering an ethical, rigorous, and compassionate experience for our students, something only possible through a strong culture of philanthropy. Please help us achieve our goal and give now. Every gift makes a meaningful impact on our students’ lives.

It was an exciting and “spirited” week on campus as the entire school participated in our Soundview Spirit Week!  The students were very engaged in themed attire, fun activities, and showed off their school spirit. Additionally, our Grade 7 students visited Trinity Lutheran Church and Chabad of Snohomish County, gaining hands-on experiences to enrich their World Religions unit. Meanwhile, our grade 3-5 students took their learning off campus with an exciting trip to the Museum of Flight, exploring history and science in a dynamic, immersive setting. The week wrapped up with the annual Middle School Fall Ball, where students enjoyed an evening of dancing, snacks, and fun, letting loose and celebrating together.

Spirit Week was a blast, filled with exciting activities and joyful moments for everyone!

Our Grades 3–5 took to the skies this week with an amazing visit to the Museum of Flight!

Reminder, Soundview school and offices are closed to observe Veterans Day on Tuesday, November 11. There will be no classes, clubs, or extended care that day as we take time to honor and reflect on the service of our nation’s veterans. School resumes at the usual time on Wednesday, November 12.

Finally, it’s getting colder! Please dress your students in layers, including gloves, hats, and rain pants, as we continue to work and play outdoors throughout winter. Weather may occasionally affect school operations, and Soundview makes its own decisions about closures or delays, as we do not follow the local school district or other schools' schedules. You will be notified if there are any changes. If you don’t hear from us, school is open!

  • Pro tip for the season: label those jackets and layers! It makes it much easier for us to reunite misplaced items with their owners.

In partnership with the Lynnwood Food Bank, whose mission is to serve our neighbors with dignity, justice, and compassion, we’re launching a schoolwide food drive to support local families in need on November 17.  The collection will run until Winter Break, offering our students and families a meaningful way to give back this season. Stay tuned for more details in next week’s Toddle Announcements and Friday Letter on how your family can participate!

One more thing…
On November 7, 1916, Jeannette Rankin of Montana shattered a national barrier when she became the first woman elected to the U.S. Congress, four years before the 19th Amendment granted women the right to vote nationwide. Her election signified a major leap forward for women’s political representation and shaped the future of gender equality in American public service. Read more about this HERE

On November 7, 1989, America witnessed two historic firsts. David Dinkins was elected the first Black mayor of New York City, and L. Douglas Wilder became the first elected Black governor in U.S. history. Their victories represented major breakthroughs in political representation, signaling that leadership at the highest levels was becoming more inclusive and inspiring future generations of Black public servants.
