Weekly Family Bulletin: GPSF Day is Next Week!

Our middle school students had an unforgettable time at last week’s Fall Ball! A heartfelt thank-you to all the parent volunteers and teachers who helped make the evening truly special.

Dear Soundview family,

I hope you enjoyed the shorter week. For those who honored veterans within your families, we hope it offered a meaningful moment of gratitude and reflection. We began the week with a moving all-school assembly led by our seventh graders in recognition of Veterans Day. They also introduced this month’s International Baccalaureate (IB) trait, Open-Mindedness, reminding us of the value in seeking and understanding diverse viewpoints. You can learn more about the IB traits HERE and view photos from the assembly below.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Family Education Night, hosted by the SPGA. We viewed Screenagers: Elementary School Age Edition, which sparked thoughtful conversations about managing technology use, from smartwatches and gaming to social media and healthy screen habits. If you were unable to attend, you can view the parent resources from this event HERE.

We’re eagerly counting down to one of Soundview’s most beloved traditions, Grandparents and Special Friends Day (GPSF), which is just one week away! This cherished event invites guests into our classrooms for hands-on projects and special activities that highlight student learning. Registered guests will receive arrival information early next week. If your student does not have a registered guest, your teacher will follow up with you. A quick view of the schedule:

  • Early Childhood & Kindergarten: 9:30–10:30 am

  • Grades 1–5: 11:00 am–12:00 pm

  • Grades 6–8: 1:00–2:00 pm

  • If you’d like to help out around campus during this special day, we’d love to have you! For those who can lend a hand, please sign up HERE.

Admissions season is in full swing! On Wednesday, we welcomed another group of prospective families for a morning coffee and campus visit. Our new Director of Enrollment Management, Jill Schaller, has been actively leading tours and processing applications for the 2026-2027 school year. If you know a family seeking an education that is ethical, rigorous, and compassionate, please send them our way. A strong applicant pool helps sustain the health and vitality of our school community, and word-of-mouth remains our most powerful tool. Families can connect with Jill HERE to learn more or schedule a visit.

  • A quick reminder for current families: Sibling applications for early admissions are open and receive priority consideration. The deadline for sibling applications is December 5, and for all other applicants, January 30, 2026.

A few key dates, events, and opportunities to keep in mind this month:

Soundview School Food Drive: Caring for Our Community
At Soundview, we believe that compassion means taking action to care for others. In partnership with the Lynnwood Food Bank, we’re launching a schoolwide food drive to support local families in need from November 17 to Winter Break. The last day for collections will be on Thursday, December 18.

Your family can help by sending in donations to be collected in your child’s classroom. While all nonperishable items are appreciated, the Food Bank has shared that the following are most needed:

  • Canned tomatoes, tomato sauce, and pasta sauce

  • Pasta, rice, and whole grains

  • Canned fruits and vegetables

  • Soups and side dishes

  • Dry beans, lentils, quinoa, and couscous

  • Peanut and other nut butters, canned meats

  • Cultural foods (particularly Asian, Hispanic, and Middle Eastern)

  • Baking and cooking supplies (oil, flour, spices, etc.)

  • Dietary items: gluten-free, low-sodium, sugar-free, plant-based, and shelf-stable alternative milks

Together, we can make a meaningful difference in our neighbors' lives this season.

ParentMap ParentEd Talk Series
Our next ParentEd Talk features visionary educator and Khan Academy founder Sal Khan, presenting Raising Future Ready Kids: What Every Parent Should Know About AI on Tuesday, November 18, at 12:00 pm. As a reminder, we’ll continue the conversation at our next Community Coffee.

Fall Break
There will be no school from November 24–29. Soundview faculty and staff will participate in in-service days on November 24 and 25, followed by school closures from November 26-28 for Native American Heritage Month observance and Thanksgiving Break. Classes will resume at the usual time on Monday, December 1.

Around the world and in different communities, November is a month  of recognition and awareness:

One more thing…
On November 14, 1960, Ruby Bridges made history as the first Black child to attend an all-white elementary school in the South, at William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans. At just six years old, Ruby faced intense racism and hostility, yet her bravery became a defining moment in the American Civil Rights Movement. Her courage helped pave the way for educational equality and integration across the United States, reminding us of the power of resilience, justice, and one child’s ability to change history.
