Soundview is a small independent school for Early Childhood through Grade 8 students. We offer our students the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years and Middle Years programs. The curriculum is inquiry-based and planned collaboratively by the teaching team and IB Coordinator.

Temporary Early Childhood Assistant

The Early Childhood Assistant is a temporary leave, full time (1.0FTE) position for limited duration (anticipated dates 10/14/2019-11/1/2019). Extended care may be included in the schedule. The position may be extended for a longer term depending on the long-term leave plan of our current teacher and the needs of our program. 

The position is an exciting opportunity for a progressive, constructivist, and collaborative teacher to support the delivery of our early childhood program. In addition, the assistant uses developmentally-appropriate literacy and numeracy curriculum and collaborates to integrate language acquisition, art, music, and physical education. 

Basic Duties:

  • IB Unit planning, instruction, assessment, and reporting. 

  • Collaborative planning with teaching teams.

  • Various supervisory duties.

  • Ongoing program review and revision.

  • Full participation in the life of the school and students, including evening events.


  • Be at least 18 years of age or older.

  • Have completed a high school education or the equivalent.

  • Have documented child development education or work experience, or is able to complete STARS training within six months of being hired. 

  • Classroom experience and/or teaching certificate preferred.

  • IB and independent school experience preferred.


  • Hourly rate commensurate with experience, qualifications, and benchmarked with peer schools.

  • Small school environment.

Substitute Teacher or Assistant

We are currently seeking substitute teachers for all grade levels from Early Childhood through 8th Grade, and for all subject areas. 

Basic Duties:

  • Manage classroom and provide instruction according to plans prepared by the classroom teacher

  • Provide a safe classroom environment that promotes active learning

  • Supervise daily routine, including distributing and collecting supplies, keeping attendance records, duties, etc.

  • Work with students to help reinforce learning objectives

  • Adhere to all Soundview policies and procedures

  • Use appropriate judgment to act in the best interest of students at all times


  • BA or BS from an accredited college or university.

  • Teaching certificate and/or teaching experience required.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Knowledge of a variety of teaching strategies.

  • Familiar with diverse learning styles.
