Weekly Family Bulletin: Stay Updated

Grandparents and Special Friends Day is on Friday, November 21! Learn more and RSVP by November 7 HERE.

Dear Soundview family,

We hope you found the parent-teacher and student-led conferences both meaningful and rewarding. These conversations are a wonderful opportunity to reflect on your child’s growth, celebrate progress, and set thoughtful goals for the months ahead. They also strengthen the vital connection between home and school, something we deeply value at Soundview. If you have any follow-up questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher. We’re all partners in supporting your child’s learning journey.

A huge THANK YOU to our incredible Soundview Parent and Guardian Association (SPGA) for organizing one of our community’s favorite traditions, BOOLING! The energy and creativity were unmatched, and it was such a joy to see families and friends come together in costume for an afternoon of fun and connection. Our community spirit was on full display! Check out some photos below.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed to Soundview’s Annual Campaign so far. Thanks to your generosity, our school continues to be a place of trusted excellence, strong community, and lasting impact. We’re off to a great start! We need your support to reach our goal, and there is time to make a meaningful difference. If you haven’t had the chance to give yet, explore ways to support our vibrant community and help us reach our goal by visiting HERE.

This week was full of meaningful learning experiences and festive fun! Our Kindergarten and Grade 1/2 students crossed the street to Fairwinds Brighton Court, where they paraded in costume and brightened the day for our neighbors. Meanwhile, our Grade 7 Humanities students visited Idris Mosque as part of their World Religions unit, an opportunity to deepen their understanding through firsthand exploration of people, places, and traditions. Back on campus, classrooms joined in the Halloween spirit with cheerful celebrations and creative activities.

We are delighted to share that Jill Schaller has been promoted to Director of Enrollment Management, effective Monday, November 10. Jill brings exceptional warmth, care, and a wealth of experience in human resources, systems and processes, and customer service to this role. One more thing…
On October 31, 1950, Earl Lloyd made history as the first Black player to play in an NBA game, suiting up for the Washington Capitols. Lloyd’s groundbreaking debut came just three years after Jackie Robinson broke baseball’s color barrier, and it marked a pivotal moment in professional basketball. His courage and talent helped pave the way for future generations of Black athletes, challenging racial segregation in sports and expanding opportunities for African Americans at the highest levels of professional basketball. Learn more HERE.

On October 31, 1997, Violet Palmer became the first woman to officiate an NBA game, breaking a major gender barrier in professional sports. Her historic appointment challenged longstanding norms in a male-dominated league and opened doors for women to pursue careers as referees at the highest level. Palmer’s trailblazing role continues to inspire aspiring female officials and highlights the ongoing push for equality and representation in sports. Learn more HERE.
