Tomorrow's a Great Day for BOOLING!

Join us tomorrow for the Soundview Parent and Guardian Association’s BOOLING! This favorite community gathering is open to all Soundview families, past and present. You can still RSVP HERE!

Dear Soundview family,

We officially launched our Annual Campaign this week! There’s never been a better time to give! When you make your donation NOW, your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Soundview alumni parents, Doug and Alison Suttles, until October 28. Please double your impact and help us reach $350,000 even faster. This means every contribution you make today goes twice as far in supporting our students, teachers, and programs. Every gift, big or small, makes a lasting difference in the lives of our students and helps sustain the programs, people, and experiences that make Soundview exceptional.

  • Make your gift today or pledge your support HERE.

  • See the campaign impact through a staff member’s eyes as Mr. Travis shares what Soundview means to him HERE.

  • Contact Ryan Wasserman, Director of Advancement, HERE for more information.

We’ve been busy on campus. Recycling Rock Stars, now known as “The 4R’s Challenge” hosted a school-wide assembly on Tuesday about recycling, waste reduction, and simple everyday actions to cut down on garbage. You can learn more about the recycling program in your area HERE. We then closed out the week with a lively community coffee and all-school assembly led by our grade 8 students, celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and highlighting the IB trait of “Risk-Taker.” Learn more about the IB traits HERE

  • See photos from the week of activities below.

Soundview students had a fantastic time participating in The 4’s Challenge, where they explored creative ways to Rethink, Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle while learning how small actions can make a big environmental impact!

We had a thrilling Assembly today led by our Grade 8 students!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the State of the School last week! If you weren’t able to attend, we invite you to watch the recorded presentation to hear from the Board of Trustees about Soundview’s strategic priorities, NWAIS accreditation progress, program highlights, and vision for the future.  HERE

  • Have important questions from the State of the School presentation? If so, please reach out to Chrissy HERE

After nearly four years of dedicated service to Soundview School, Victoria Nunes will be departing on November 7. During her time at Soundview, Victoria worked to increase enrollment, strengthen community connections, and share the school's story with creativity and passion. She has brought innovative ideas, positivity, and care to everything she’s done. Victoria will be greatly missed by colleagues, students, and families alike, and we wish her all the best in her next chapter.

A few key dates, events, and opportunities to keep in mind this month:

Fall Conferences
The parent-teacher and student-led conferences will be on Thursday, October 30, and Friday, October 31. There are no classes for students these days. Regular school resumes on Monday, November 3, at the usual time. Conferences are an important opportunity to discuss your child’s development as well as for our older students to practice their reflection, goal-setting, and presentation skills. Here is a quick explanation of each participant’s roles:

  • Students: (Grades 5-8 lead their own conferences; conferences for lower grades are not student-led):

    • Identify strengths and areas for growth with specific examples.

    • Celebrate the students’ strengths.

    • Create a plan for addressing the students’ areas for growth.

  • Parents:

    • Please be punctual (it’s a very busy day).

    • Stay positive; focus on your child’s strengths.

    • Ask open-ended and reflective questions.

  • Teachers:

    • Manage the time respectfully.

    • Provide probing questions and highlight achievements.

    • Be ready to clarify where necessary.

Picture Retake Day
Picture Retake Day is coming up on Tuesday, October 28! Lincoln and Lucy Photography will return for individual and sibling photos (by sign-up). Families can choose either a black or gray background for retakes. Please register by today, October 24. When photos are ready, you’ll receive a link and code via email to view and order. RSVP HERE

Halloween Dress-Up Day
Get ready for Halloween Dress-Up Day on Wednesday, October 29! Students, staff, and families always enjoy this festive day. Thank you for helping us make this a joyful celebration for all. To keep it fun and safe for everyone, please avoid:

  • Full-face masks or anything that hides identity

  • Weapons or weapon-like props

  • Gory or frightening costumes

  • Fragile or valuable props

Spirit Week
Our first Spirit Week of the year kicks off November 3-7! Each day brings a new theme to celebrate community and school pride. No need to buy anything new, just have fun and get creative! Check out the daily themes in the attached flyer HERE.

Middle School Fall Ball
Middle Schoolers, mark your calendars! The Fall Ball will be held on Friday, November 7, from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm in the PAC. This year’s theme is “Enchanted Forest.” You should have received details in this week’s Toddle Announcement.

Veterans Day
There will be no school, care, or clubs on Tuesday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day.

Prospective Family Coffee
We will host an Open House and Prospective Family Coffee on Wednesday, November 12. This is a wonderful chance to learn more about Soundview’s ethical, rigorous, and compassionate education. If you know a family who might be interested, please invite them to join!

Family Education Night
On Thursday, November 13, the SPGA will be hosting a Family Education Night featuring a screening of Screenagers: Elementary School Age Edition. This new version of the original Screenagers movie addresses issues that elementary school-aged kids, parents, and educators are facing, i.e., smartwatches in class, unhooking from and monitoring video gaming, social media pressures, exposure at too young an age, and what research shows is a healthy amount of screen time. You can register for the event and childcare by visiting HERE.

Grandparents & Special Friends Day (GPSF)
Friday, November 21, is Soundview’s Grandparents and Special Friends Day (GPSF), a wonderful opportunity for grandparents, extended family members, neighbors, and family friends to join us on campus and share in the Soundview experience. Guests are invited to spend an engaging hour in the classroom, participating in projects and activities alongside their students. It’s always a heartwarming day filled with connection and creativity! For more details and to RSVP, please click HERE.

Around the world and in different communities, October is a month  of recognition and awareness:

One more thing…
On October 24, 1861, Western Union completed the first transcontinental telegraph line, revolutionizing communication in the United States. For the first time, people could send messages instantly between the East and West coasts, a process that had previously taken weeks by mail or Pony Express. This groundbreaking achievement marked the beginning of a new era in connectivity, commerce, and national unity, effectively shrinking the vast distances across the country. The telegraph not only transformed how Americans shared information but also symbolized innovation and progress during a pivotal time in U.S. history. Read more about this HERE.
