Dear Soundview families,

Thank you to all who attended the State of the School last night and to our dedicated Board of Trustees, who volunteer their time and talents to make sure Soundview is here for future generations of students. Trustees shared:

  • an overview of the Board’s structure, responsibilities, and how to get involved

  • the process and timeline for naming a permanent Head of School

  • a review of the value and timeline for NWAIS accreditation

  • the why behind the need for strong participation in the Annual Campaign

  • progress highlights towards meeting the school’s strategic priorities

  • the Board’s goals for the year, and

  • a review of the strategic financial plan approved last year, how it will benefit our students and faculty, and what it means for you.

    • Move towards a single tuition over the next five years

    • Roll out of Facilities, Technology, and Outdoor School fees over the next three years (fees and tuition for the following school year will be approved by the Board in January)

Your questions and insights helped make it a truly valuable conversation about Soundview’s future. If you were unable to attend, please check out the video recap from Shawn Heidel, our Board President, next Friday.

Join us as we celebrate the start of our Annual Campaign and get ready for one of our most beloved traditions, BOOLING! happening on Saturday, October 25. This festive event brings together bowling, costumes, and a lively Trunk-or-Treat, making it a highlight for current and alumni families alike. Spots for bowling are on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to RSVP HERE

Yesterday at 10:16 am, our students and staff participated in International ShakeOut Day, joining millions worldwide in an earthquake preparedness drill. It was an important reminder of our commitment to safety and readiness. To learn more about ShakeOut Day, click HERE, and for additional earthquake preparedness resources, click HERE.

A few key dates, events, and opportunities to keep in mind this month:

Fall Conferences
You should have received a note from your child’s teacher this week with a link to schedule your family’s 30-minute conference through Toddle. Students in Grades 5-8 will lead their own conferences, while Early Childhood through Grades 3/4 will be guided by teachers. There will be no class, clubs, or extended care on the October 30 and 31 conference days. Childcare will be available during your scheduled in-person conference time.

ParentMap ParentEd Talk
Our next ParentEd session features Dr. Ann-Louise Lockhart, who will present Cracking the Teen Code: Spot Trouble, Build Trust & Stay Connected on Thursday, October 23, at 1:00 pm. Don’t forget that these talks will be unpacked with our community at upcoming Community Coffees. Register HERE and use the password SOUNDVSCH for your complimentary ticket.

Community Coffee
A reminder, our first Community Coffee of the year will be next Friday, October 24, from 8:40 am - 9:20 am in the Art Room. It’s an opportunity to connect with me, our counselor, and faculty while discussing school topics and highlights from the most recent ParentEd Talks. These mornings align with our assembly days for convenience. Please park in the gravel lot. All upcoming dates can be found on the Community Calendar HERE, with a printable version available HERE.

Picture Retake Day
Picture Retake Day is coming up on Tuesday, October 28. Lincoln and Lucy Photography will be back on campus for retakes and sibling photos by sign-up. For retakes, we are offering the choice of a black background or a grey background. Please register by Friday, October 24. Once photos are processed, you’ll receive a link and code via email to view and order. You can RSVP HERE.

Halloween Dress-Up Day
Halloween Dress-Up Day will take place on Wednesday, October 29. Halloween costumes and parties are a fun part of the school year for students, parents, and staff alike. Out of respect for the safety and sensitivity of all members of the Soundview community, please note that the following items are not acceptable in our EC-8 environment:

  • masks which cover the entire face or otherwise prevent recognition of the costume-wearer.

  • weapons or objects that may be used as weapons.

  • gory or gruesome costumes (that could potentially upset our youngest students)

  • props that might be lost or broken are discouraged.

Spirit Week
We are thrilled to announce that Soundview's first Spirit Week of the school year will take place from November 3-7. Each day will feature a fun and engaging theme, designed to celebrate our community and build school spirit. There is no need to buy new items, as we want to keep this stress-free and fun. We mindfully chose themes that offer plenty of flexibility for the students to show their creative side. You can find the daily themes in the attached flyer HERE.

Fall Ball
The Middle School Fall Ball is on Friday, November 7, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the PAC. This year's theme is “Enchanted Forest.” Be sure to look for more details regarding this event in next week's Toddle Announcement.

Prospective Family Coffee
Our Director of Enrollment Management, Victoria Nunes, will be hosting an Open House with a Prospective Family Coffee on Wednesday, November 12. This event is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Soundview’s commitment to an education that is ethical, rigorous, and compassionate. If you know a family who is curious to explore more about our school and would thrive in our community, please encourage them to attend and discover what makes Soundview so special.

Grandparents & Special Friends Day (GPSF)
Friday, November 22 is Soundview’s Grandparents and Special Friends Day (GPSF), a wonderful opportunity for grandparents, extended family members, neighbors, and family friends to join us on campus and share in the Soundview experience. Guests are invited to spend an engaging hour in the classroom, participating in projects and activities alongside their students. It’s always a heartwarming day filled with connection and creativity! Around the world and in different communities, October is a month  of recognition and awareness:

One more thing…
On this day in 1979, Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her tireless humanitarian work and dedication to serving the poorest and most vulnerable. Known for founding the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, she devoted her life to providing compassion, dignity, and care to those in need. Her recognition marked a powerful moment in history, honoring not only her personal sacrifice but also highlighting the global importance of selfless service, mercy, and humanitarian action. Her legacy continues to inspire acts of kindness and a deeper commitment to helping others. Learn more HERE.
