Lots of Exciting Things Coming Up!

Dear Soundview families,

It was a full and exciting week at Soundview! We kicked things off with a lively picture day, and it was wonderful to see so many bright smiles and eager faces ready for their photos. This week also brought bittersweet moments as we said farewell to Andrea while warmly welcoming Jill Schaller back to our team as she settles into the Office Manager role. If you haven’t had a chance yet, be sure to stop by and introduce yourself!

Are you looking for more ways to be involved and make a difference? Join the amazing Soundview Parent and Guardian Association (SPGA). The SPGA is an extension of Soundview, operating with a school-provided budget, and is focused on supporting staff and students and building community. Through events, education nights, and volunteer opportunities, the SPGA creates pathways for every parent and guardian to get involved at a level that feels right for them. Whether through time, talents, resources, philanthropy, or simply showing up to play and connect, every effort makes a difference. If you’d like to be more actively involved, we encourage you to reach out to the SPGA Executive team at spga@soundview.org.

We hosted our first virtual ParentMap ParentEd Talk, Simplifying Kids’ Nutrition, Busting Myths, and Fueling Healthy Habits. As a reminder, discussions on each ParentEd Talk will continue at our monthly Community Coffees.

Our Director of Advancement, Ryan Wasserman, has been actively connecting with members of the Soundview community to share information about the Annual Campaign. He is eager to hear your perspectives on what matters most in supporting our school’s mission to remain ethical, rigorous, and compassionate. Your input is invaluable, and Ryan would be delighted to treat you to a coffee and speak with you personally. You can reach out to him HERE or schedule a time with him directly on his calendar HERE.

Victoria, our Director of Enrollment Management, has been routinely meeting with prospective families, giving tours, and accepting applications. You can help make a difference! Spread the word to friends and family - our school truly is one of a kind, and we want everyone to know about it. It only takes a few minutes to explore our website and discover how we provide an educational experience that is ethical, rigorous, and compassionate. If you have any questions about admissions or want to refer a family to Soundview, please feel free to reach out to Victoria HERE.

  • Sibling applications, which receive priority consideration, are due December 5. The deadline for all other applications is January 30, 2026.

A few key dates, events, and opportunities to keep in mind this month:

Grade 8 High School Application Session (Please note date correction from last letter)
Families of our grade 8 students are invited to a dedicated high school application workshop on Thursday, October 9, from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm in the Humanities Room. Please bring a device and come ready to make progress! This session will offer practical support with applications, essay writing, test registration, school list finalization, and more. Childcare will be available after school for grade 8 students and their siblings until the session begins.

No School: staff in-service
A reminder that there will be no classes, clubs, or child care on Friday, October 10, as our faculty and staff engage in a professional development day. This time will be devoted to advancing our accreditation self-study with the Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS).

Board of Trustees State of the School
Please join us on Thursday, October 16, from 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm in the Performing Arts Center for our annual State of the School. The Board of Trustees will share key updates on governance, the Head of School search, accreditation, and long-range planning around tuition, finances, and strategic goals. This gathering is a valuable opportunity for all Soundview families to stay informed and engaged. RSVP by Monday, October 13, to confirm your attendance and request childcare HERE.

Community Coffee
Community Coffees are back! Join us for the first gathering on Friday, October 24, from 8:40–9:20 am in the Art Room. Community Coffees are a chance for parents to connect in an informal setting with me, our school counselor, and other faculty and staff. Each month, I’ll share a topic of interest, highlight key takeaways from the most recent ParentEd Talk, and open space for conversation and community building. To make these gatherings easier to attend, they’ll always be scheduled in the morning on the same day as our monthly assemblies. Please park in the gravel lot. Staff will be on hand to direct you. You can find the full list of dates on the Community Calendar HERE.

BOOLING and Trunk-or-Treat
Mark your calendars for the SPGA’s upcoming event, BOOLING!, happening on Saturday, October 25. This festive tradition combines the fun of bowling with costumes and a lively Trunk-or-Treat, making it one of the highlights of our fall season. It’s a wonderful opportunity for families to connect, celebrate, and enjoy time together. We’ll also take a moment to recognize the exciting launch of our Annual Campaign and the tremendous support of our community. You can find the RSVP details HERE!

Around the world and in different communities, October is a month  of recognition and awareness:

One more thing…
On October 3, 1974, Frank Robinson made history by becoming the first Black manager in Major League Baseball when he took the helm of the Cleveland Indians. His leadership broke barriers in a sport that had long struggled with issues of equity and inclusion, paving the way for greater diversity in leadership roles across professional sports. Robinson’s achievement remains a powerful reminder of progress and the importance of representation in American history. Read more about this HERE.
