Weekly Family Bulletin: Lot’s Happening at Soundview!

Congratulations to Mr. MacCully and our Grade 3–5 students for organizing an inspiring and impactful Human Rights Rally this past Wednesday!

Dear Soundview families,

As we move into December, our campus is buzzing with meaningful learning, community connections, and exciting progress on our Annual Campaign. We’re grateful for the support and participation that make Soundview such a vibrant place for our students. As the month continues, we want to share several important updates from our Annual Campaign progress to recent student events and upcoming program opportunities. Please read on for important dates and information.

Our Annual Campaign is gaining strong momentum, and we’re grateful for the generosity shown so far. To help us reach the finish line, a group of Soundview grandparents, together with alumni parents and trustees Alison and Doug Suttles, have launched a special December matching challenge. Once we raise $15,000 before December 31, they will match that amount dollar for dollar!

The Annual Campaign directly sustains the programs that deliver the ethical, rigorous, and compassionate education your student(s) experience every day. Our goal this year is $350,000, and every contribution, big or small, makes a real difference.

Project Night was a wonderful celebration of learning, and we hope you enjoyed seeing your student(s) share their creativity and accomplishments. Thank you for being part of such an energizing evening! You can view photos from the event below.

This Wednesday, our Grade 3–5 students led Soundview’s second annual Human Rights Rally. Their speeches, poems, songs, and posters showcased meaningful reflections on human rights and invited our community to stand together in solidarity. Their thoughtful preparation, heartfelt messages, and commitment to justice were truly remarkable. Photos from this inspiring gathering can also be found below.

Soundview students loved sharing their hard work and accomplishments with their families during Project Night.

Our grades 3–5 students did an exceptional job inspiring our community through their thoughtful and meaningful Human Rights Rally.

Stock the Lounge
The Soundview Parent and Guardian Association (SPGA) is bringing holiday cheer to our teachers and staff with the annual “Stock the Lounge: Holiday Edition”! This year, we’re collecting self-care items, games, travel mugs, favorite books, cozy blankets, stationery, pens, art supplies, or any small treasures you love to give. Gift bags will be prepared for staff to take home. Homemade cards or holiday wishes are always appreciated. Drop off contributions anytime during the week of December 15 in the main office, or have SPGA collect them from your car during drop-off and pick-up on December 16.

Community Coffee Dates
Our next two Community Coffee events will take place on Thursday, December 18, and Friday, January 16, from 8:40–9:20 am in the Spanish room, right before the all-school assembly. These gatherings have sparked rich conversation, and we hope you’ll join us!

Our food drive is in full swing, and we’re grateful for the incredible generosity already shown! Hundreds of items were delivered to the Lynnwood Food Bank recently. We’ll gather on the Soundview campus for an afternoon filled with fun games for every age and a friendly cook-off featuring categories for chili, mac and cheese, kids’ cornbread, plus chances to contribute desserts and sides. Transition Preview - NEW EVENT!
Soundview School invites all families of students that will transition to a new classroom or division next year to attend our Transition Preview on Thursday, January 22, from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm. You will meet teachers, explore the curriculum, and ask questions about the transition to a new classroom. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing how Soundview continues to inspire curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning.

Annual Clothing Drive
In January, the SPGA will host a clothing drive to support our local partner Clothes for Kids, whose mission is to empower students for success one wardrobe at a time. They are especially in need of winter essentials such as hats, gloves, and coats. Donations can be dropped off during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up, making it easy to participate without leaving your car. We will also be contributing unclaimed Lost & Found items, so now is a great time to set aside any gently used clothing you’d like to give. More details to come soon!

Around the world and in different communities, November is a month  of recognition and awareness:

One more thing…
On December 12, 2009, Annise Parker became the first openly gay mayor of a major U.S. city when she was elected to lead Houston, Texas. Her historic election represented a major milestone for LGBTQ+ representation in politics, breaking barriers and demonstrating that leadership and public service are defined by vision and ability, not sexual orientation. Parker’s achievement helped pave the way for greater inclusivity and visibility of LGBTQ+ leaders across the country. Read about this historical event HERE.
