Enjoy a Restful Winter Break & See You in 2026!
Wishing our Soundview community a relaxing and refreshing winter break! See you in the New Year!
Dear Soundview families,
I hope you all had a wonderful week! It was a fun time on campus as many classes participated in winter parties or celebrations before the break. On Wednesday, our Grade 5 class traveled to the Washington State Capitol to expand their understanding of government and representation as part of their current unit of inquiry. We capped off our week yesterday morning as our Grade 6 class led the December all-school assembly, focusing on the December trait-of-the-month, “balanced,” featuring speeches from students, jokes, a skit, and a song from Mr. Fred. You can learn more about our IB Learner Profile HERE, and view photos from the assembly and week of activities below.
Our classes wrapped up the week with festive winter celebrations and parties, a joyful way to begin a well-deserved break!
We enjoyed a wonderful assembly today led by our Grade 6 students, who explored this month’s IB trait, Balanced, through thoughtful reflection and presentation.
Grade 5 had a very educational field trip this week to the Washington State Capitol!
During today’s faculty and staff in-service, our team focused on emergency preparedness by reviewing safety procedures, practicing protocols, and engaging in scenario-based drills. This ongoing training supports our commitment to maintaining a safe, well-prepared environment for all students and staff. We capped off the day with lunch and a white elephant exchange before heading into the break. And finally, a heartfelt THANK YOU to the SPGA and to all of the parents who so generously donated such thoughtful and meaningful holiday gifts for our faculty and staff. Receiving these gestures of appreciation just before winter break was incredibly heartwarming and deeply appreciated by all.
Soundview’s winter Care and Clubs registration is now open. Spots are limited, be sure to secure Before & After Care by visiting HERE, and Clubs HERE.
Soundview School will be closed from December 22 to January 5. Our offices will reopen on January 5 for a faculty and staff in-service day, and classes will resume for students at the usual times on Tuesday, January 6.
Our Annual Campaign December Challenge is underway through the end of the month! Soundview grandparents, along with alumni parents and trustees Alison and Doug Suttles, have generously offered a matching opportunity. Once Soundview reaches $15,000 in gifts by December 31, they will match the full amount raised. We’re currently at $8,565 for December! Thank you to everyone who has already contributed!

Your end-of-year support for the Annual Campaign is especially meaningful and may also offer valuable tax benefits. Together, we can continue strengthening the educational experience our students rely on each day.

Looking for something fun to do during the break? Soundview’s first-ever stand-up comedy class is hitting the big stage at a real comedy club, and our student comedians are ready to bring the funny! Come cheer on Soundview students Luka James Clark and Arlo Moran on December 30 at Laughs Comedy Club and show them all the love and support they deserve. They’ll be performing their five-minute sets right alongside professional comics—talk about brave and impressive! This show is family-friendly, and the best part? Kids 16 and under get in FREE! Learn more about this HERE.

One more thing…
On December 19, 2012, Park Geun-hye made history by becoming the first woman elected President of South Korea. Her election marked a significant milestone in a country where politics had long been dominated by men, signaling a shift toward greater gender representation in leadership. While her presidency would later become complex and controversial, her election itself represented a breakthrough moment that reflected changing attitudes about women’s roles in public life and leadership in South Korea.
