Highlights From a Week Full of Learning, Fun and Activities!
Grade 8 showed their pride at today’s kick-off assembly by creating the Soundview logo with their hands, marking their last first assembly at Soundview. We can’t wait to watch their leadership and achievements unfold throughout the year, and look forward to celebrating every step of their journey!
Dear Soundview families,
What an energizing start to the school year! These first couple of weeks have been filled with laughter, connection, learning, and community.
Today we came together for our first all-school assembly of the year! The gathering included birthday celebrations, jokes, poetry, a dance by the admin team, and music, reminders of the joy that comes with community. We also introduced the International Baccalaureate (IB) Learner Profile trait of the month: Caring.
You can learn more about the IB traits HERE.
Kick off the school year with a smile, watch our Admin team show off their dance moves in this fun video HERE!
The countdown is on for our Grades 5–8 outdoor school adventures! This year, students will head to both the Mount Rainier Institute (MRI) and NatureBridge for unforgettable learning experiences. Grades 6–8 will attend MRI from September 15–18, followed by Grade 5 at NaturBridge from September 17–19. Outdoor school has long been a treasured Soundview tradition, giving students the chance to step outside their comfort zones, practice independence, and grow in a supportive environment away from home. Beyond the fun and exploration, these trips build lasting friendships, strengthen trust within the group, and inspire confidence that only overnight journeys like these can bring.
Last Friday, our Grades 5-8 students enjoyed time together on field trips at Marina Beach Park and Lynndale Park. It was wonderful to see friendships deepen and new bonds form as students shared experiences outside the classroom.

We kicked off our very first assembly of the school year today, led by the admin team and highlighting this month’s IB trait “Caring”!

Our middle schoolers kicked off the year by celebrating their first week together at the beautiful Marina Beach Park in Edmonds.
What better way to start the year than with our Grade 5 class enjoying a day of exploration and connection with their first field trip of the year to Lynndale Park?
Also, last week, our Board of Trustees welcomed new members at their New Trustee Orientation, bringing fresh perspectives and energy to the group. Tomorrow, the entire Board will come together for their annual retreat, which is a chance to connect, collaborate, and dream big for Soundview. Their thoughtful leadership and service help shape the path forward for our school, ensuring that every decision keeps our students and community at the heart of the year ahead. Mark your calendar for the October 16 State of the School to hear directly from the Board.

One more thing…
September 12 marks two remarkable milestones. In 1992, Dr. Mae Jemison became the first Black woman to travel into space aboard the Shuttle Endeavour, breaking barriers in science and inspiring future generations in STEM. Read more about this historic moment HERE.
Just one year later, in 1993, Seattle celebrated the opening of the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge (now SR 520), then the longest floating bridge in the world, a symbol of innovation and regional connection. Read more about this historic moment HERE.
