Celebrating Our First Week Together!

Our Grade 3/4 students kicked off the school year with smiles, laughter, and lots of fun on the playground, it’s been a wonderful first week back at Soundview!

Dear Soundview families,

We’re off to a wonderful start! It has been such a joy to see students diving into the school year with energy and enthusiasm. As routines begin to settle in, the excitement around campus is contagious. You can get a glimpse of Dolphin Day, the first day of school, and other first week highlights below.

What a splash of fun Dolphin Day was, bringing our Soundview community back together on campus!

The first day of school at Soundview was a true success! Warm smiles filled the campus, teachers were energized and ready, and the joy of learning was already in the air.

Next Friday marks our first school assembly of the year, hosted by our admin team. From then on, individual classes will take turns leading. When it’s your child’s class or when they are being honored for embodying our values of being ethical, rigorous, and compassionate, we’ll be sure to invite you to join in the celebration.

A change to our Soundview team:

  • Andrea Hjorten, our Front Office Manager, will be stepping down from her role at Soundview on September 30 to take on a new role with WA Cares. We are excited for Andrea to grow professionally and pursue her dream of building her family. Andrea has been an instrumental part of our team, providing warmth, care, and support to students, families, and staff each day. Her dedication and hard work have left a lasting mark on our community, and she will be deeply missed. Please join us in thanking Andrea for all she has done for Soundview and in wishing her the very best as she embarks on this next chapter. We are currently in the process of finding her replacement and will share updates soon.

A few reminders:

  • Drop-off and pick-up car line

    • Do your best to arrive at your designated time. The overlapping times are designed for families with students in multiple grades.

    • If you’re early, please wait around the corner on the residential streets.

    • Enter through the west entrance and pull all the way forward in all three of the loading areas.

    • Stay in your car to ensure the most efficient drop-off or pick-up.

    • Students will wait on the sidewalk for your car. They will not walk across the parking lot.

    • Please drive slowly.

    • You can review the campus map HERE. Please share it with anyone who picks up your child.

    • Note: During the school year, should you have changes to your approved individuals for regularly scheduled pick-up or carpooling arrangements, please email the Soundview main office at attendance@soundview.org.

  • Student personal devices

Soundview subscribes to a “banned unless required” policy regarding technology. During school, including before/after school clubs and care, and after-school events, the key reminders are:

    • No use of personal devices (cell phones, smartwatches, and other electronics) at school. Devices should remain in backpacks and be turned off while students are on campus.

    • Students who use their devices while at school will be asked to leave the device in the front office to be picked up by a parent or guardian at the end of the school day.

If students need to get in touch with their parents during the school day, they can use the phone in the front office. If parents need to get in touch with a student, they can call the front office, and we will make sure the student gets the message as soon as possible. You can review the full device policy and all other policies in our school handbook HERE

Engaging With Classrooms
Parents and guardians are encouraged to volunteer in classrooms. Soundview will have various times during the school year when potential volunteers can indicate their interest and availability. Adults on campus may be required to complete a background check by Washington State Patrol and must meet all other current requirements. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact your student's teacher.

One more thing…
On September 5, 2006, Katie Couric made history by becoming the first woman to anchor a weekday evening network newscast solo when she debuted on CBS Evening News. Her appointment marked a groundbreaking moment in broadcast journalism, breaking through decades of male-dominated nightly news desks. Couric’s role signified both progress and possibility, opening doors for future generations of women in media and reinforcing the importance of diverse voices in shaping how news is delivered and understood.
