World Read Aloud Day!

There was a lot going on across the school this week. Integrus architect Will Crothers visited middle years Design class to discuss architectural design. MYP students are in the research phase of an interdisciplinary Art/Design unit, including fashion, interior design, and architecture.

MYP Spanish students spent another afternoon at Lake City Community Center for an intergenerational experience led by SilverKite. The experience included conversations and activities with native Spanish speakers, as well as exploration of Spanish culture, language, and heritage through movement, music, and other art forms. Learn more about Silverkite HERE.

Soundview MYP students started an additional intergenerational experience with our neighbors across the street at Fairwinds Brighton Court. Students and residents are participating in crafts, games, service projects, and conversation throughout February and March. You can learn about Brighton Court HERE.

Here are the February reminders and opportunities:

  • The Soundview Parent / Guardian Association (SPGA) has some exciting news, updates, and opportunities for involvement. Our strong school and parent partnership truly benefits our students. You can learn more about SPGA and get involved HERE.

  • Mid-winter break is February 19th through February 23rd. There is no school for students, and the Soundview office will be closed. School resumes at the usual time on Monday February 26th.

  • Be sure to follow Soundview’s Community Calendar to see the full menu of school activities and goings-on. You can find it by visiting the Parent Portal HERE.

There are a lot of cultural traditions to learn about and celebrate in February.

Have a great weekend everyone,

One more thing…
On February 9, 1971, pitcher Leroy “Satchel” Paige becomes the first Negro League veteran to be nominated for the Baseball Hall of Fame. In August of that year, Paige, a pitching legend known for his fastball, showmanship and the longevity of his playing career, which spanned five decades, was inducted. Joe DiMaggio once called Paige “the best and fastest pitcher I’ve ever faced.” You can learn more about this HERE.
