Cook-Off Results and Tuition Deposits

Congratulations to our Soundview cook-off winners! Julia (parent of Leander) won the mac-n-cheese competition, Tina (parent of Tricia) won the chili competition, and Patrick won the students’ cornbread competition.

Dear Soundview Families,

Thanks to our Soundview Parent and Guardian Association for a really great Cook-Off and Game Night! I might have a second career as a BINGO caller. Check out event photos below!

We are currently finalizing plans for the 2024-2025 school year. You can find Soundview’s major dates HERE.

Today, you will receive an email from Soundview and with a link to Ravenna (be sure to check your “junk” folder, if you don’t see the email) to make your deposit for the school year 2024-2025, due by February 9th.

Our board is committed to setting tuition that keeps an ethical, rigorous, compassionate education accessible in our neighborhood. Our culture of philanthropy makes this commitment possible. Soundview’s tuition is all-inclusive and covers supplies, field trips, and more. There are no additional fees. The only exceptions are instrument rentals for 5th- through 8th- grades and chromebooks in 6th- through 8th-grades.

Soundview’s Board of Trustees finalized tuition for next school year:

  • Early Childhood: $15,250

  • Kindergarten through 5th-grade: $18,310

  • 6th- through 8th- grade: $19,770

February is Black History Month, and this year’s theme is African Americans in the Arts. Be sure to explore the Soundview library’s curation of books across genres and age levels in celebration this month. Look for classroom highlights on Toddle.

Today, our fifth-graders became middle school students for a day. They worked on geography, science, physical health education activities, and a design thinking challenge. The experience lays the foundation for a smooth and successful transition from the primary years to middle years program.

Our middle years Spanish class spent the afternoon at Lake City Community Center for an intergenerational experience led by SilverKite. The experience included conversations and activities with native Spanish speakers, as well as exploration of Spanish culture, language, and heritage through movement, music, and other art forms. Students practiced greeting elders with a handshake or smile, making eye contact, and communicating in simple Spanish sentences. Learn more about Silverkite HERE.

Here are the February reminders and opportunities:

  • Fall semester progress reports are published Friday, February 9th via Toddle. If you do not receive your student(s) report or have questions please reach out to their teacher directly.

  • The admission application deadline is today. We are excited to see a 25% increase in applications to Soundview this year! Thank you for your referrals and engagement with Soundview’s admission campaign.

  • Midwinter break is February 19th through February 23rd. There is no school for students, and the Soundview office will be closed. School resumes at the usual time on Monday February 26th.

Around the world and in different communities, February is a month of recognition and awareness:

  • February is American Heart Month. It is an annual observance dedicated to raising awareness about heart health and cardiovascular diseases. It serves as a reminder to prioritize heart-healthy lifestyles, learn about heart disease prevention, and support those affected by cardiovascular conditions. Learn more HERE

  • Sunday, February 4th is Rosa Parks Day. Rosa Parks Day honors the American Civil Rights hero who refused to give up her seat for a white passenger while riding a city bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Learn more about Rosa Parks HERE

  • Tuesday, February 6th is Safer Internet Day. Safer Internet Day promotes a safer and more responsible use of online technology by children and young people around the world. You can learn more about HERE.

Thank you to our community,
Chris

One more thing…
On February 2, 1897, Black inventor and businessman Alfred Cralle patented the first ice cream scoop, originally called an “ice cream mold and disher”. Made with a built-in scraper, his invention made it easier to scoop out ice and dump into a dish without leaving a mess that came from using a spoon and fingers. His popular creation is part of a surge in patents by Black inventors after the end of the Civil War. You can learn more about this HERE.
