Dear Soundview Families,

It was great to see so many of you at last Friday’s ice cream social! On behalf of our faculty and staff, thank you to our Soundview Parent and Guardian Association (SPGA) and community for showing up to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week. Check out photos of the event below.

We had a fantastic time at last week’s Ice Cream Social, where our entire community came together to enjoy a sunny afternoon filled with fun, connection, and sweet treats!

Every school year follows a familiar arc. This is the time of year when we finalize our staff for the upcoming school year and celebrate the contributions of departing faculty. This year, we say goodbye to third and fourth grade teacher McKenna Rounds. She will be a full-time graduate student next fall working towards her master’s degree in education. We also say goodbye to Spanish teacher Alexandra Allyn. We look forward to hearing about what’s next for Ms. Alexandra.

In the coming weeks we’ll include welcomes and bios of our new third and fourth grade and Spanish teachers and introduce Chrissy’s plan for replacing the Assistant Head of School position. We are also in the process of hiring additional early years associate teachers, as well as expanding staff in our Skills Collaborative program. Stay tuned.

As we approach the end of the school year and I prepare for my own departure, I want to share my excitement for the future of Soundview. I’ve worked alongside incoming Interim Head of School Chrissy Sinclair for the last fifteen years. Chrissy brings a wealth of experience, dedication, and knowledge of our community to her new role. She’ll bring her own style to leadership and take Soundview to the next level. You find our head transition video and letters from our board and me HERE

Our third through fifth-grade classes enjoyed a fun-filled field trip to Shorecrest High School, where they had the opportunity to watch a lively performance of The Little Mermaid.

Adding to the week’s enriching experiences, our seventh graders spent a full day on Bainbridge Island exploring the Bainbridge History Museum. This meaningful trip ties directly into their studies on Japanese Exclusion during World War II, part of the unit which fulfills the Washington State history requirement for high school applications.

Our eighth-grade students are pictured here enjoying a fun and engaging outing to the Everett Public Library.

Our first- and second-grade students took a field trip to Ballinger Park to deepen their understanding of our current nature unit through hands-on exploration of aquatic macroinvertebrates. With the support of Nature Vision, they also enjoyed a nature walk, practiced aquatic insect dipping, and participated in engaging nature-themed games.

One more thing…
The first Academy Awards ceremony took place on May 16th, 1929, at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles. Hosted by actor Douglas Fairbanks and attended by just 270 guests, the event lasted only 15 minutes and honored films from 1927 and 1928. Unlike today’s suspenseful reveals, winners had been announced three months earlier. The first Best Picture award went to Wings, a World War I epic. This modest, private dinner marked the beginning of what would become the most prestigious and influential awards in the film industry. Historically, the event signified Hollywood’s growing desire to legitimize cinema as a serious art form and elevate its cultural status worldwide. Read more about this HERE.
