Dear Soundview family,
I hope you all enjoyed a restful and joyful long weekend! It was great to see so many of you on campus for the Spring Social. I don’t know about you, but I love to have ice cream while connecting with you all and welcoming our new families to campus. Thanks to students across all grade levels who created banners, signs, and decorations to help welcome families to campus today!
As the school year winds down, our days continue to be filled with learning, creativity, leadership, and memorable experiences across campus. One of today’s highlights was our Grade 8 Community Project presentations, an important capstone experience in each student’s Soundview journey. Through these thoughtful service-learning projects, students identified real-world needs and explored ways to make a positive impact in their communities. It was inspiring to see the care, dedication, and creativity our students brought to their work.
Earlier this week, our Early Childhood through Grade 4 students participated in Move-Up Day, giving them an exciting preview of next year’s classrooms and teachers. There was plenty of enthusiasm and anticipation as students explored what lies ahead for the upcoming school year.

As we look ahead to the next school year, we’re excited to remind you of two important updates for our community. First, we will be transitioning to a new database and student information system in the coming months. As part of this transition, the process for collecting and updating back-to-school information will look a little different for the 2026–2027 school year. More details and guidance will be shared soon. We’re also thrilled to begin celebrating a major milestone: Soundview turns 30 next year! To help mark this special anniversary, we’re launching a community contest to design a commemorative Soundview 30th anniversary logo. Check out the details here.

A few key dates, events, and opportunities for May and June:
Library Books
All library books were due back last Friday, May 22. If your child can’t find their book, please contact Ms. Armstrong at earmstrong@soundview.org so that she can do a shelf check or work with you to figure out a replacement for the book(s).
Grade 5 PYP Exhibition
We are excited to welcome the Soundview community to the Grade 5 PYP Exhibition on Thursday, June 4, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the Performing Arts Center and Library Loft. As the culminating experience of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Exhibition showcases student inquiry, research, and action connected to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Throughout the afternoon, students will share their projects, ideas, and learning with guests while exploring meaningful global topics and potential solutions. Be sure to review the Sustainable Development Goals and explore this year’s exciting PYP Exhibition topics ahead of the event.
Additional Exhibition details:
Overflow parking will be available at Trinity Lutheran Church near 196th Street SW and 64th Avenue West.
Supervision for siblings of Grade 5 students will be available from dismissal until 4:00 pm with an RSVP submitted by Friday, May 29. Families utilizing supervision should pick up students in the classroom of their youngest child between 3:50 pm and 3:55 pm when doors open for the event.
Friends and family members are encouraged to arrive between 3:50 pm and 3:55 pm to help ensure a prompt 4:00 pm start.
Students not participating in the Exhibition must attend with an adult.
Families can review the RSVP information to attend.
Field Day
Field Day returns on Tuesday, June 9, bringing a day of energy, teamwork, and fun for students in Kindergarten through Grade 8. Rather than grouping students by grade level, teams will be organized by colorful headbands, encouraging collaboration and connection across age groups as students move through activities together. Depending on the weather, students should come prepared with sunscreen and a water bottle, as classes will spend extended time outdoors. More details will be shared soon!
Grade 8 Graduation
Our Grade 8 Graduation Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, June 10, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm in the Performing Arts Center, followed by a reception honoring graduates and their guests. This special evening celebrates the accomplishments and growth of our graduating students, and the entire Soundview community is warmly invited to attend. Preferential seating will be reserved for graduates’ families and guests. Please RSVP by Monday, June 1, if you plan to attend.
Final Day of School
The final day of the school year is Thursday, June 11. School will follow the regular start and dismissal schedule.
Faculty & Staff In-Service
Following the close of the school year, Soundview faculty and staff will participate in in-service and professional development from June 15–18 as we reflect on the year and prepare for the year ahead. Please note that the school offices will be closed on Friday, June 19, in observance of the Juneteenth holiday.
Report Cards & 2026–2027 Information
Report cards will be available through Toddle on Thursday, June 18. Current families will also be able to access the 2026–2027 class lists and the full school-year calendar, including major dates and events, beginning in August.
Volunteer Opportunities
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has recently volunteered to help with preparations for the Grade 8 Graduation and Grade 5 Exhibition receptions. Thanks to your generosity and support, we now have all the volunteers needed for Graduation! We are still looking for a few additional volunteers to assist with set-up for the Exhibition reception in June. If you’re available to lend a hand, please consider signing up for the Exhibition HERE. Your support helps make these celebrations so meaningful and memorable for our students and families.
We’re also always excited to continue growing our volunteer community across campus. If you’re interested in supporting classrooms, teachers, or school events throughout the year, we encourage you to explore current volunteer opportunities and ways to get involved.
Fun at Funko Field in July!
Save the date for a fun summer outing with the Soundview community at Funko Field on Sunday, July 26, as the AquaSox take on the Eugene Emeralds! Tickets are $13 each, and families are asked to RSVP by June 2. So far, 77 tickets have been purchased. Tickets will be available for pickup the week of June 8. Thank you to Jill Schaller for helping organize this exciting community event. We hope to see you at the ballpark!

One more thing…
On May 29, 2005, Danica Patrick made history by becoming the first woman to lead laps at the legendary Indianapolis 500. Her groundbreaking performance captured national attention and marked a major milestone for women in motorsports, a field traditionally dominated by men.
Patrick’s achievement inspired a new generation of female athletes and helped broaden opportunities and visibility for women in professional racing. Her success at one of the most prestigious events in sports challenged long-standing barriers and became an important moment in the ongoing push for greater representation and inclusion in athletics.
