Declamations, a Holiday, and Malcom X!

Dear Soundview Family,

Congratulations to the fifth grade class for presenting today’s assembly about the trait of the month: “knowledgeable.” Look for a link to the recorded assembly in next week’s Toddle announcements from teachers.

Just a few reminders:

  • Middle School Declamations performance is next Thursday, May 25, 4:00 to 5:30 PM in the Soundview Performing Arts Center. All Soundview families and friends are welcome to attend. This is an annual Design Class project in which every middle school student participates in a variety show format.

  • There is no school on Monday, May 29 or Tuesday, May 30 for Memorial Day and report card writing. School resumes on Wednesday, May 31.

  • Soundview has a schedule of events and activities for the end of the school year celebrations. Look for details in next Friday’s letter.

Enjoy your weekends,

Chris

One more thing…

Malcolm X (born Malcolm Little, later el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz; May 19, 1925 – February 21, 1965) was an American Muslim minister and human rights activist who was a prominent figure during the civil rights movement. A spokesman for the Nation of Islam until 1964, he was a vocal advocate for Black empowerment and the promotion of Islam within the Black community. A posthumous autobiography, on which he collaborated with Alex Haley, was published in 1965. Click HERE for more information.
