Hats Off to Our Amazing Fifth Graders!

Congratulations to our ethical, inquisitive, and compassionate fifth-grade students on an inspiring Exhibition! Throughout the day, they confidently presented their work to every student in our school, followed by an engaging showcase for families and community members after school. The future is truly in good hands.

Dear Soundview Families,

I am excited to write to you in my first official letter as Interim Head of School. It is an honor to step into this role and serve the school and community that has been a second home for me and my family for fifteen years. To this day, I see evidence of what Soundview taught and instilled in my children, and I am deeply grateful. I am committed to making sure all of our students remain curious and excited to learn, take action when they see a problem in the world, and know that they belong here at Soundview. I look forward to listening, learning, and partnering with you as we continue to support our students in becoming ethical, rigorous, and compassionate citizens and leaders.

As we near the final week of the school year, we find ourselves in a season of celebration and reflection. What have we accomplished? Which qualities have we nurtured and strengthened? What challenges have we faced, and how have we grown in overcoming them? In what ways have we supported others, built meaningful relationships, and created lasting memories? And, what continues to spark our curiosity and excitement? Take time with your family to reflect. That’s where the learning happens!

This week at Soundview was full of activity and connection. A heartfelt thank you to Victoria for organizing our Spring Social & New Family Welcome! Despite the rain, it was a fun, well-attended event that strengthened our community. On Tuesday, our Kindergarten class enjoyed an engaging field trip to the Imagine Children’s Museum. Wednesday marked our final Community Coffee of the year, where we reflected on our growth as parents during the past year. Our eighth-grade Spanish students wrapped up their final class with a joyful celebration with Latin music, food, and games to celebrate their accomplishments. Thursday brought both our closing ParentEd Talk and the much-anticipated PYP Exhibition, the culmination of the IB Primary Years Program. Our fifth graders explored global issues, presented with confidence, and inspired our community to take meaningful action. We are very proud of their hard work!

One more thing…
On June 6, 1889, the Great Seattle Fire destroyed 25 downtown blocks, reshaping the city’s future. Sparked in a carpentry shop, the fire spread quickly due to wooden buildings and poor firefighting resources. Though no lives were lost, damage was extensive. In response, Seattle rebuilt with brick and stone, improved infrastructure, and entered a period of rapid growth. Learn more about this HERE.

On June 6, 1933, the first drive-in movie theater opened in Camden, New Jersey, offering a new way to enjoy films from the comfort of a car. Created by Richard Hollingshead, the concept quickly became a symbol of postwar American culture. Though their popularity declined, drive-ins remain a nostalgic icon of American entertainment.
