Soundview Summer Social!

(Delayed post from August 4, 2023)

Dear Soundview Family,

I hope to see you tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM at Lynndale Park, shelter #2 for the Soundview Summer Social! Bring your own food and snacks. We’ll reconnect, play, and swap summer stories.

It has been great to see so many of you at Soundview’s Summer Camps. Students and staff had a lot of fun! The campus will be closed for the next two weeks, August 7th through 18th, for cleaning and school year preparations. You can reach Soundview administrative staff via phone and email.

Today’s email is a reminder that the school year starts soon.

Here is the need-to-know information as we look ahead to the start of the school year:

  • You can also subscribe to Soundview’s Community Calendar by clicking HERE.

  • Dolphin Day is on Tuesday, September 5th, 2023. Dolphin Day is an opportunity for students and parents to come to campus during an assigned time, see their classrooms, meet their teachers, and work out any start-of-school jitters. Dolphin Day is recommended but not required. If you’re unable to attend Dolphin Day, don’t worry! The assigned times are:

    • Early childhood through second grade is 1:30 to 2:30 PM.

    • Third through eighth- grade is 3:00 to 4:00 PM.

    • Families with siblings in both grade groupings can choose the time that best suits their schedules.

  • The first day of school is Wednesday, September 6th, 2023:

    • Soundview has a rolling drop off and pick up. Use the west driveway to enter the campus and follow the directions from staff. You can find a useful map HERE.

    • Drop-off times:

      • Early childhood and kindergarten: 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM

      • First through eighth- grade: 8:20 AM to 8:40 AM

    • Pick up times:

      • Early childhood and kindergarten: 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM

      • First through fifth- grade: 3:10 PM to 3:40 PM

      • Sixth through eighth: 3:30 PM to 3:40 PM (Please note, the middle school dismissal is 10 minutes later than last school year.)

    • There are a lot of cars moving through the drop-off and pick-up lines. It’s important to arrive at your designated time and not early. Please stay in your cars and have your child’s gear ready to grab. Position your child on the driver’s side if possible. Pull as far forward in the lines as possible.

  • You will start to receive my weekly Friday emails before the start of the school year on Friday, August 25th.

  • In addition to my emails, you will receive an email from your child’s teacher on Tuesday, August 29th, at 5:00 PM. The email will contain all the start-of-school information from your teacher germane to your child’s classroom and your individual Toddle login information (“Toddle” is Soundview’s online classroom management and communication system). All future classroom announcements (and other fun updates) from your teachers will come on Tuesdays via Toddle.

  • Registration for 2023-2024 After School Care, Club, and Activities will be available early in September.

  • There are no classroom supplies for you to purchase. Soundview provides all of your child’s classroom materials. Band instruments for fifth through eighth- grade and Chromebooks for sixth through eighth- grade students are not included and must be provided by each family.

    • Information about band instruments will be sent to fifth through eighth grade families before the start of the school year.

    • Sixth through eighth- grade students need to provide their own Chromebooks. If you have any questions about Chromebooks, contact Assistant Head of School Chrissy Sinclair HERE. Pro-tip: please wait on any Chromebook configuration. Teachers will lead students through the process using the school’s network and logins.

Enjoy the rest of the summer!

Chris
