Dear Soundview Families,

It’s been a productive week on campus, filled with academic exploration, Spirit Week, field trips, and the Middle School Spring Fling after school today! Our 5th-grade students have been especially busy with multiple field trips to gather information for their upcoming Exhibition projects. Last week, they contributed to an Earth Day work party at North City Park, and just yesterday, they visited the Edmonds City Library to deepen their research.

  • You can view photos from the week below.

Our students had a fantastic time celebrating Spirit Week on campus, be sure to check out all the amazing photos capturing the fun!

Summer Camp
Soundview Summer Camp registration is now open
for all ages, and runs from June 23rd - August 22nd! In addition to our very own Soundview-led programs, we've partnered with Steve & Kate’s to offer a diverse range of camp experiences. Designed to ignite curiosity, foster creativity, and create unforgettable memories, our camps are open to both Soundview School students and the public, so feel free to invite your child’s friends to join the fun! Spots are limited, so be sure to secure yours today by visiting HERE.

Accreditation
We still need your help
with the Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS) accreditation process! We’re asking all families to take a few moments to complete our Soundview Parent Survey, available HERE. This survey is designed to provide a well-rounded view of your family’s experience at Soundview and will help us celebrate our strengths and identify areas where we can grow. A few quick notes:

  • Please complete one survey per household.

  • All responses are anonymous and will be used exclusively for accreditation and school improvement planning.

Dress & Appearance
With the change in weather, it is important that your child is comfortable at school. Clothing should fit properly and be appropriate for school, art, and physical activities. Young children also need to wear clothes that are easy to manipulate without help. No open-toed shoes, sandals, clogs, flip-flops, platform shoes, high heels, or shoes with wheels are permitted, except on specially designated days or as part of appropriate dress for presentations or performances. For PHE, all students in grades K-8 are expected to wear sneakers on their designated PHE days.

Here are the reminders and opportunities during the month of May:

Around the world and in different communities, May is a month of recognition and awareness:

  • May is Women's Health Month, also referred to as Women's Health Awareness Month. Women's Health Month officially kicks off each year on Mother's Day with Women's Health Week, and continues throughout the month of May. Women's Health Month is a time to focus on the importance of taking care of ourselves and our health. This month is an opportunity for women to take the time to make sure they are taking the necessary steps to protect their long-term physical and mental health. You can learn more about this HERE

  • ALS Awareness Month is an annual event held in May that aims to raise awareness about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. It's a time for the ALS community to come together, share stories, and advocate for research and support for people living with this progressive neurodegenerative disease HERE.

  • National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day is May 8th, observed annually on the first Thursday of May, and it aims to raise awareness about the importance of children's mental health and well-being. It is a day to highlight the significant role mental health plays in a child's development and overall health. This day serves as a reminder to prioritize the mental health needs of children and provide support for their emotional and psychological well-being. Learn more about this day HERE

Looking forward to celebrating our wonderful faculty and staff together next week,

One more thing…
On May 2nd, 1920, history was made when the first official game of the National Negro League (NNL) was played in Indianapolis, Indiana, as the Indianapolis ABCs faced off against the Chicago American Giants. Founded by Andrew "Rube" Foster earlier that year, the NNL marked a major milestone in the fight for racial equity in American sports, offering Black players and fans a professional league of their own amid the segregation of Major League Baseball. This inaugural game wasn't just about baseball — it symbolized Black excellence, entrepreneurship, and resilience during a time of profound racial discrimination. The success of the Negro Leagues helped pave the way for the eventual integration of baseball and reshaped the landscape of American sports and culture forever. Read more about the NNL HERE
