Mid-Winter Break:Time to Rest, Recharge, and Reset!
Dear Soundview family,
I hope you’re heading into the weekend feeling energized after another lively week at Soundview! The campus was buzzing with excitement from the Seahawks Super Bowl win and the much-anticipated break. I missed seeing many of you on campus for our originally scheduled Community Coffee and Assembly this morning. Due to the high number of illnesses this week and resulting loss of practice time, we rescheduled for Friday, February 27, same time and format. Our Grade 3/4 students will be rested, well-rehearsed, and ready to go!
Momentum is also building for the Soundview Spring Benefit on March 28 at the Edmonds Waterfront Center, and we truly hope to see you there. This evening is both a celebration of our community and a critical fundraiser that directly supports our students. Ticket sales, auction bids, raffle tickets, and paddle raises all play an important role in making this event a success, and it simply wouldn’t be the same without our families.

As we look ahead, planning for the 2026–2027 school year is underway. Major dates for next year will be shared after the mid-winter break, with the full academic calendar to be published this spring. For planning purposes, Dolphin Day will be on Tuesday, September 8, with the first day of school on Wednesday, September 9.
Head of School Search Update
As we mentioned last week, our Head Search Committee is making progress on our plan towards landing a permanent Head of School for Soundview. Part of the internal vetting process is an on-site visit day where the search consultant meets with faculty, staff, and families to gain insight on the internal candidate. Your perspective as parents and families is an important part of this process. This will be taking place on Tuesday, February 24, from 2:15 to 3:00 pm. An anonymized survey will be sent for those who are unable to attend or who have additional feedback to share. Please RSVP for the live session to help us plan.
To read more about our process, search committee, and timeline, visit the Head of School Search page on our website.
Community Projects
Don’t forget! Grade 8 student, Sonya, is holding her supply drive to support her work with Seattle Children’s Hospital from March 2 to 6. Read this recent note from Sonya for more details.
Summer Camps
Summer Camp registration is well underway, and spots are filling quickly! Soundview’s inquiry-driven, adventure-filled camps for students entering Early Childhood–Kindergarten and Grades 6–8 are led by our own dedicated faculty and staff. We’re also thrilled to continue our partnership with Steve & Kate’s Camp, offering additional options for children ages 4–12. Camps are open to both Soundview families and the wider community. Spread the word! Space is limited; be sure to register soon on our website.
Need a refresher on last week’s updates? You can find them on our website.

One more thing…
On February 13, 1923, the New York Renaissance, known as the Rens, were organized, becoming the first all-Black professional basketball team. At a time when segregation barred Black athletes from most professional leagues, the Rens dominated the sport with skill, discipline, and innovation, proving unequivocally that talent knows no color. Their success challenged racial barriers in athletics, elevated the visibility of Black excellence in professional sports, and helped pave the way for the eventual integration of basketball, leaving a lasting legacy on the game and American sports history.
