Dear Soundview Families,

The Soundview Spring Benefit Event is on the evening of April 20th. We are raising funds for all programs that demonstrate Soundview's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. These programs include:

  • Expanding support services for neurodiverse students.

  • Maintaining a tuition that is all inclusive. No additional fees for supplies, field trips, outdoor school, and all other school-related materials.

  • Providing equitable access to technology and laptops to all primary students.

  • Funding the International Baccalaureate curriculum, which is the highest standard in the world and develops international-mindedness.

If you are a current Soundview family, alumni family, grandparent, friend, or advocate of an ethical, rigorous, compassionate education, you belong at the Soundview Spring Benefit Event. Register today HERE.

Thanks for joining our faculty and students at last week’s Spring Showcase. Students were excited as they showcased their art projects, unit reflections, math assessments and more. We celebrate their hard work and growth.

On Tuesday, our seventh-graders went to Bainbridge History Museum and the Japanese Exclusion Memorial to research for their current historical non-fiction writing unit. You can learn more about this HERE. Look for their stories later this spring.

Here are the April reminders and opportunities:

  • Spring Break is April 1st through 5th. There is no school for students, and the Soundview offices will be closed. School resumes at the usual time on Monday, April 8th.

  • Spring picture day is Tuesday, April 9th. Lincoln and Lucy Photography will be on campus one last time to offer outdoor spring pictures (or with blue background in the case of poor weather). Check out examples HERE. If you would like your child to have their picture taken, please RSVP by today, Friday, April 5th HERE

  • The next orchestra recital, featuring the sixth-grade band, is coming up on Thursday, April 11th at 5pm in the Soundview Performing Arts Center.

  • Soundview’s Spirit Week is April 15th through 19th. More information is coming soon!

Around the world and in different communities, March and April are months of recognition and awareness:

  • March 31st is Easter. Easter is a Christian holiday and festival that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. You can learn more HERE

  • April 2nd is World Autism Day. World Autism Awareness Day is an internationally recognized day annually on April 2, encouraging Member States of the United Nations to take measures to raise awareness about autistic individuals throughout the world. You can learn more HERE.

  • April 6th is Tartan Day. Tartan Day was founded in Nova Scotia as an annual celebration of Scottish culture and heritage, and has grown more popular every year. In the US, it was declared 'Tartan Day' by the Senate in 1998. You can learn more HERE

  • April 7th is World Health Day. From its inception at the First Health Assembly in 1948 and since taking effect in 1950, the celebration has aimed to create awareness of a specific health theme to highlight a priority area of concern for the World Health Organization. This year's theme is “My Health, My Right.” You can learn more HERE

Have a great break everyone!

One more thing…
On March 29th, 1848, an ice blockage caused the rivers surrounding Niagara Falls to run dry. This strange occurrence reduced the flow of water to such an extent that Niagara Falls' usual 3,160 tons of water per second flow came to a halt. The dramatic event is chronicled in an article by Marjorie Freeman Campbell that appeared in the January 1960 issue of the Canadian Geographic Journal. For more than a day, no water flowed over the Falls. You can read more about this event HERE
