Recognizing Our Diverse Community
June is Men’s Mental Health Month—a time to raise awareness about the unique mental health challenges men face and to break the stigma surrounding seeking help. Far too often, societal expectations and stereotypes discourage men from speaking openly about their emotions or reaching out for support. This month is a powerful reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health, and that vulnerability is a sign of strength—not weakness. By recognizing Men’s Mental Health Month, we create space for honest conversations, promote access to mental health resources, and encourage all men—fathers, sons, brothers, friends, and colleagues—to prioritize their well-being. Together, we can build a culture where mental health is valued, supported, and destigmatized for everyone.
Sunday, June 1st was National Cancer Survivors Day. This is an annual, treasured celebration of life that is held in hundreds of communities around the world on the first Sunday in June. It is a celebration for those who have survived, an inspiration for those recently diagnosed, a gathering of support for families and an outreach to the community. Normally on National Cancer Survivors Day, thousands gather across the globe to honor cancer survivors and to show the world that life after a cancer diagnosis can be fulfilling, rewarding and inspiring. Thursday, June 12th is Loving Day. Loving Day is celebrated annually to commemorate the 1967 Supreme Court case Loving v. Virginia, which struck down anti-miscegenation laws in 16 U.S. states, making interracial marriage legal in the country. The ruling stated that restricting marriage based on race violated the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. The day is a global celebration of community, education, and visibility, and is especially significant for interracial couples, multiracial families, people of mixed race, and transracially adopted people.
