Around this time of year I find it important for children to take a step back and realize the importance of not only what it means to give and receive gifts but also the value and meaning that handmade gifts can have.
When creating their batiks, children in the 3rd-5th grade were asked to create them with someone in mind. Last week we took time to package our batiks and write notes to accompany them. If you receive a batik or any other handmade gift from your child, from melting beads to cardboard creations, I hope you take an extra moment to appreciate and enjoy all of the hardwork and thoughtfulness they have put into creating it.
Best, Stella Brier
