Partners in Parenting: Stop Fighting, Find Balance

Helping our Children (and Ourselves) Find Balance with Technology in an Age of Digital Distraction

Join us on Thursday, October 25 at 6:00 p.m., in the Soundview Performing Arts Center for a presentation by Emily Cherkin, The Screentime Consultant, LLC, who has spent over 15 years working with families, schools, and children across rapidly-changing digital landscapes.

A longtime classroom teacher, a current parent, and a conflicted user of technology, Emily’s talk will focus on technological changes over time, address current research about screens and brain development, and challenge parents to look at family technology use. A unique aspect of Emily’s talk is the inclusion of anonymous survey results of the student and faculty community at Soundview School to help illuminate the challenges on a local and personal level. The good news is: in an Age of Digital Distraction, it IS possible to find balance! Armed with humor, empathy, and evidence-based research, Emily will help our community to normalize, strategize, and optimize the way screentime affects us as individuals and families. Emily is “tech-positive” and recognizes that technology is here to stay. As with most things in life, it is about finding balance! Her talk will leave you optimistic, energized, and armed with a few take-home strategies to implement.
