Odd Asks From the Art Room

We have a few new projects coming up in art that could really use your help!

If you are able to donate any of the items listed below please drop them by the art room ASAP!

Our next unit with the intermediate students in the art room will be a natural dye and batik making unit to partner with their current unit on chemistry. Many dye materials are things that we may otherwise discard so I wanted to reach out to the community to see if we could start gathering. Below is a list of what we might need:

Yellow Onion Skins: Yep that papery outer skin on the onion makes a beautiful yellow dye.

Un-used Black Tea Bags: If you have any tea that has been sitting in your cupboard for awhile that needs a new use, black tea creates a sepia color

Avocado Seeds and Skins: Believe it or not avocado pits and skins when boiled make a lovely light pink

Berries: If you have any berries in your backyard such as Blackberries( I know a little past season but even the dried up ones) Chokecherries, or any other type of berry that when squished produces a colored juice will dye fabric. These will result in lovely shades of purples and reds

Large pots: Any large pots such as canning pots or large stainless steel pots we would love to borrow for a few weeks! Most of the dyes are with food products so they wont be used for anything toxic or that will stain and they will be returned to you by Christmas! I probably need about 4 so send me a quick email if you plan on bringing one in to make sure we still need some.

Thank you so much! I think we are going to have lots of fun with this one!

Thank you! And feel free to email with any additional questions!
