Soundview Middle Schoolers Start Stewardship

Middle Schoolers began their first stint of stewardship work at Friends of North Creek Forest. They spent the morning pulling blackberry vines and hiking around the forest.

In the middle school, students complete service work on Fridays at various locations in the area.  Friends of North Creek is one of Soundview’s longest partners. Students have been helping to save and restore the forest for nine years!

For this trip, students hiked farther back into the forest and looked at an area of the forest that was slated for development. The neighborhood around the forest came together and helped stop the development; thus forming Friends of North Creek Forest. Students also learned how to use loppers and shovels to dig up blackberry roots and clear one of the trails. In rain and shine, our students loved being stewards of the environment!
