The Voting Process

Each year learning to vote to express ideas is an important part of our curriculum. It teaches children a way to express their opinions, compare and contrast, practice counting and most importantly how to take care of each other’s feelings. We asked the kids what they wanted to change dramatic play into. After many votes we finally decided upon a “cabin” theme. Before voting we discussed what we may feel if our choice is not the most popular. Some kids expressed that they would be mad or sad if their idea was not chosen. One child even came up with a compromise, so that the two ideas could be combined. We still had a few tears, but by the afternoon everyone took a turn working on the backdrop to make it more “cabin -like”. We will start painting it tomorrow and begin our list of props we will need to collect. Please come check it out over the next couple of weeks.
