Instructor: Anita Watson

The Hallowell Todaro Center is happy to partner with Soundview School again this year in supporting middle school students as they develop and target their executive function skills. This after school group is reserved for students in 6th-8th grade and will include personal learning assessments, executive functioning and brain development curriculum, and time for additional support with schoolwork and homework. The group will focus on developing goals and building habits, specifically related to organization, planning, time management, working memory, and emotional regulation. The overall goal is for students to learn more about who they are, how their brains work, and to have time and space for work.

Anita Watson will be facilitating the group. Anita has 18 years of experience leading, teaching, and counseling in both independent and public schools. Most recently, Anita worked at Seattle Academy of Arts And Sciences (SAAS) as a middle school Study Skills Teacher and Learning Support Coordinator. At SAAS, she assisted students with a range of abilities and needs and worked comprehensively with families, faculty, and staff to provide positive and effective support plans. Before SAAS, Anita worked at Punahou School in Honolulu, where she served as a high school Counselor and completed a fellowship that led to the development of a Learning Support Center. The Learning Support Center was structured to support students with a variety of learning differences. Prior to Punahou, Anita taught middle school humanities for the Central Kitsap School District. Anita has a BA from Central Washington University in Education and an MSCP specializing in School Counseling from Chaminade University. She currently holds her Mental Health Counselor Associate License in Washington State. Last year, Anita consulted with with multiple independent schools regarding Student Support Services and Executive Functioning Curriculum. She currently works directly with Seattle Girls' School and Soundview School through the Hallowell Todaro Center and is a part-time School Counselor for the Bainbridge Island School District.

The group will be offered winter and spring trimesters, but because the course builds on each previous session, it is important for students to join in the beginning.
