BEGINNING ACTING

Description: Our young thespians will learn to use their movement, facial expressions, and voices to portray characters and develop scenes. Students will expand valuable life skills such as ensemble building, self-confidence, and problem-solving while developing their capacities as creative collaborators in an atmosphere that encourages fun, commitment, and taking creative risks in a safe environment.

CONSTRUCTION CLUB

Grade: Kindergarten-3

Number of students: 3 minimum, 10 maximum

Description: Construction Club offers students a fun, creative outlet to build self-confidence and motor skills while creating keepsakes and models to treasure for years to come! Students will sand, glue, and paint wood while learning to use tools safely, problem-solve, and construct useful items with their own two hands.

NATURE ARTISTS

Grade: 1-6

Number of students: 4 minimum, 12 maximum

Description: Nature Artists offers your kids the opportunity to release their inner artist!  In this class, students will have the chance to create beautiful artwork with natural and found materials, some of which they will gather outside themselves.  Examples of activities include making paint from crushed berries and leaves, nature weaving, collage, and making brushes with feathers and lichen. Emphasis is placed on enjoying the creative process and paying attention to the materials that we use.  Nature art is a great way to stay connected to the natural world during every season.

STORY-BASED YOGA

Description: Story-based yoga gives early childhood, kindergarten, and first grade students the opportunity to explore yoga through fun and relatable stories. During each 30-minute class, they will focus on a new theme as they learn to make and hold a variety of poses. Yoga helps develop coordination, flexibility, and strength while helping students release their energy in a fun and safe environment. They can laugh and marvel as they increase their skill and sense of achievement.

YOGA

Grade: 2-8

Description: Yoga is the perfect physical activity for those looking to develop coordination, flexibility, and strength. Students build confidence and a sense of achievement as they master increasingly challenging poses. Each lesson will give them an opportunity to slow down, chill out, and work their muscles in a safe, comfortable environment. Whether you’re brand new or an experienced yogi, you can benefit from our weekly yoga classes for a fun, challenging workout.

Acting

Description: Scenes from our favorite movies provide inspiration and challenge for this epic acting experience. Develop skills in character development, blocking/direction, building conflict, acting “beats,” and more. Students will expand valuable life skills such as ensemble building, self-confidence, and problem-solving while developing their capacities as creative collaborators in an atmosphere that encourages fun, commitment, and taking creative risks in a safe environment.

Description: The Beginning Strings class provides the opportunity to learn the basic skills for playing the violin or the cello. Our lessons will focus on the individual needs of each student for learning good sound production, note reading facility, and equipment care. Beginning Strings students have fun making music while learning from an encouraging and patient instructor. Once a strong foundation of basic skills is developed (as determined by the instructor), students may advance to the Soundview Community Youth Orchestra where a move to viola or bass is an option. Students need to purchase their own copy of Essential Elements 2000 in the edition for their instrument (violin or cello) and provide their own instrument. All other music materials are provided.

Description: Board games have come a long way since Monopoly and Chutes & Ladders. Modern games teach turn-taking, cooperation, communication skills, and strategic thinking while exploring a wide variety of game mechanics and themes. Each week, we will explore a new game and return to a favorite. Some of the games we will try include Super Tooth, Sushi Go!, Carcassonne, and Codenames.

CHESS

Grade: Kindergarten-Grade 8
