Ms. Carly

Filmmaking is an amazing tool for kids to use to express themselves. In Filmmaker’s Space our kids walk through the entire filmmaking process from start to finish! The program will be a year-long class that gives each student the chance to write, plan, shoot and edit their own film! The program breaks down into three parts, and will run the way a studio would a major motion picture on kid-friendly scale that will teach them by having them go through the process of creating something in steps over the course of the year! In fall semester, we would go through the “green light” and pre-production process. Here kids will learn how a script is made, how to write a script, and get a chance to craft a short script of their own! We will also learn how to create a storyboard, shot list, and prop list for their ideas. During winter term we will go through the shooting process. We will scout locations the kids would like the use for their films. Then, each week, shoot one of their films. The goal is each kid will get the job of director on their own film. The other members of their crew will rotate through all other positions, so everyone can try each job. In spring term we will focus on the post-production process. We will focus mainly on editing but, will can explore very basic special effects, sound design and foley (if they find it fun and interesting!). At the end of the year, we will have a red carpet film premiere of all the kid’s work for their parents!
