Here are a some answers to the questions you may have about this exciting project.

Why should I give?

Soundview School is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization. Soundview fulfills a need not just for our students, but for our parents and alumnae--for our whole community. Like all non-profit schools, we depend on our community to thrive. This is especially true for these new classrooms. Remember, your contribution is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Why are we building new classrooms?

This is the right time. For many years we have leased the property next door to our main facility. The lease is up for renewal. We looked at our business model and decided that it would be a much better investment to build a new, small schoolhouse on our own property rather than pay to rent on someone else's property.

Isn't that expensive?

The short answer is, "No." The new classrooms will strengthen Soundview's mission and its financial position. With your help, we will invest about $250,000 in the new classrooms. The expense of the construction and maintenance of the new building, spread over five years, will be about $70,000 per year. The expense of the old property, spread over the same five years would total nearly $1,000,000.

What is a Leadership Investment?

When you say. "Yes," to an investment of $1,000 or more in Soundview's new classrooms, you are letting the rest of the Soundview's family know that you believe in this project and this community. You lead the way. Contributions at any level are welcome.

Will there be special recognition for Leadership Investments?

Absolutely.  Soundview's students are designing permanent recognition for all the folks who support the new classrooms. This is a very important moment for Soundview. We want to make the most of this historic event.

Isn't the cost of the new classrooms covered by my tuition payments?

No, in fact tuition and other earned income cover only 73% the cost of teacher's salaries, light bills, maintenance, and the like (what are called annual expenses). The 27% gap is made up by people like you. This does not include extraordinary projects. Extraordinary projects, like building new classrooms, take special effort from our whole community.
