Vianne Reay, President
Vianne Reay has been a member of the Soundview Board of Trustees since 2010. She was elected President in 2015. Vianne holds a BA in Education from Pacific Lutheran University and Masters of Education in Curriculum and Assessment: Integrated Teaching through the Arts from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. She has K-12 Music and K-8 Classroom Washington State Teaching Certificates. Her 28 years of teaching experience includes elementary music, elementary, middle, and high school choir, beginning band, middle school art and integrated arts. She currently teaches Integrated Arts in the Elementary Classroom and early childhood courses for Central Washington University at their Des Moines campus. Vianne has presented numerous continuing education workshops for teachers around the Pacific Northwest and nationally. She enjoys West African drumming, swimming, reading and playing percussion in her church worship band.
Alison Suttles, Vice President
Alison Suttles joined the Soundview Board of Trustees in 2013. Currently a stay-at-home parent, she spent over 10 years in the technology industry as a web developer and data analyst. With the enrollment of her oldest child at Soundview in 2010, Alison has worked hard to support the community as a room parent and regular volunteer. As a result of those efforts, she has joined with other parents in the community to reinvigorate the long-dormant Soundview Parent Association (SPA). Alison is currently serving as SPA Vice President. She is also pursuing a business degree at University of Washington.
Paul Carduner joined the Soundview Board of Trustees in March 2016. He has spent the last 10 years working in the technology industry on mass market consumer facing products. After spending 5 years at Facebook working as a software engineer, engineering manager, and most recently as the site lead for Facebook's burgeoning Seattle office, Paul decided to take some time off to explore his hobbies: hiking, photography, sailing, and climbing. While not out in the woods, Paul spends his time helping to develop a number of open source educational software projects for bootstrapworld.org and code.org.
John Connolly has been a member of the Soundview Board of Trustees since 2009. In his professional career he has served as an Operations and Systems Auditor at Opus Bank in Everett, as a Compliance Manager at Washington Mutual, as an Information Systems Audit Manager for Deloitte and Touche, and various Information Systems roles at J. P. Morgan & Co. in New York. He is a current member of the Snohomish County Clean Water District Advisory Board for the Stillaguamish River, and was the Chair of that board for three years. Mr. Connolly’s education includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from the State University of New York, and a Master of Business Administration Degree from New York University.
Keith Kubie is a lead structural analyst at Boeing, working on the 747-8, Fuselage, Section 42. Keith is responsible for functional leadership ensuring structural compliance for this component of the aircraft. In addition to his area of direct responsibility, Keith is also extensively involved across the Boeing Commercial Structures community, integrating teams and workflows into total aircraft structures design and certification. Prior to his current assignment Keith served a one year assignment as the one-site Boeing representative working with Aernnova in Vitoria, Spain. Keith was responsible for liaison between the Boeing team and the supplier, ensuring compliance with Boeing requirements, and establishing effective processes for continuing collaboration. Keith joined Boeing in 1989 as a design engineer on the 747 and 767 programs. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tulsa. Keith, his wife Kim and their daughter Sarah (Soundview class of 2012) live in Edmonds.
Elizabeth Smith currently serves as the Senior Vice President, Regulatory and Quality at Juno Therapeutics, a biotechnology company focused on the development of immunotherapies to treat cancer and other serious diseases. In her role at Juno, Elizabeth guides the company’s efforts to navigate regulatory requirements and develop strategies to bring novel therapies to market. Ms. Smith has over 25 years of experience in the field of regulatory affairs, quality, and manufacturing, with an emphasis on biologics and advanced cellular therapies in oncology. Prior to joining Juno, Ms. Smith served as the Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at Dendreon and led the regulatory efforts resulting in FDA licensure of Provenge, the first approved active cellular therapy for the treatment of cancer. Prior to Dendreon, Ms. Smith held regulatory and manufacturing positions at Genentech and Immunex. She holds a B.A. in Biology from Central Washington University. As a parent of two students whose primary and middle school education has almost entirely been completed at Soundview, Elizabeth proudly became a Soundview Trustee in 2014 and is very passionate about the demonstrated benefits of the IB education and the culture at Soundview.
Russ Otani joined the Soundview Board of Trustees in 2014. Russ is a northwest native and earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of Washington. He also attended the University of Southern California and graduated with a certificate in Food Industry Management (FIM). The FIM program emphasized leadership development, strategic planning and executive communications. Russ works at Unified Grocers in the Information Services department. He loves camping, skiing, traveling and hiking with his wife and daughter. Russ also competes in road races and cross-country meets, and plays PSSBL baseball.
Ben VandenBerghe is a Shoreline native and lives in Edmonds with his wife and a moderate collection of dogs. Ben is a partner in one of Seattle’s oldest law firms, Montgomery Purdue Blankinship & Austin, where he focuses on commercial litigation and business representation. Ben earned his BA in history from the University of Washington in 2000 and his JD from the University of Washington School of Law in 2004. Prior to attending college, Ben served as an infantry paratrooper in 2nd Ranger Battalion and is a graduate of US Army Ranger School. Ben’s interest in Soundview stems from his roots in the North End and his strong belief that creative and challenging early education programs like the IB and Soundview serve a critical role in our community.
