Our goal in the library is keep our wonderful collection of books available for all to use. This policy helps us meet that goal.
Checkout Policy
Lower grade students may have five books checked out at any one time. Students in lower grades are asked to bring their books back each week on the day they have library check-out time. If a student would like to keep a book for another week, this is acceptable, but the total number of books checked out remains the same. If any book is not checked back in after one month, a library book due notice will be sent home and the student may not check out any more books until any book more than one month overdue is checked back in.
For upper grade students, the number of books checked out may vary depending on research and curricular needs. Students using school texts such as math or social studies books will have those texts checked out to them at the beginning of a school year or unit of study. Upper grade students may need other books checked out for a longer period of time, as in the case of books as research for history fair or other long-term projects. Materials must be returned on completion of a long-term project. If a student has a general circulation book checked out for more than one month, a library overdue notice will be sent home and no more books will be checked out until the overdue materials are returned.
Important Dates
Regular student checkouts will begin on or before September 15 for the 2008-2009 school year. General circulation and check-outs will stop three weeks before the end of the school year. May 15 is the last day for checkouts for the 2008-2009 school year. This allows the librarian to inventory books and help to find missing books before the end of the school year. Report cards are not distributed to individuals until all library books are returned or replacement costs paid.
