Declamation Contest
The Declamation Contest is a public speaking contest that most commonly uses poetry or prose as the medium for competition. All students in fifth through eigth grade recite pieces from memory in the hopes of first, second or third place recognition. Declamation contests are held nation-wide in several different category and ability levels, but all schools must choose only three finalists.
Soundview invites a prestigious panel of judges to consider each of the entrants and determine three winners. There are prizes for our best orators as well as acknowledgement on a plaque displayed at the school.
National History Day
National History Day is a national contest where children demonstrate their abilities to study a topic and show what they know. Students can either create an exhibit, write a research paper, perform individually or as a group, or create a documentary. Students travel to defend their work and be judged by a panel of experts.
Chess Tournaments
Soundview attends and also sponsors tournaments for our area. Chess is for ages Kindergarten and up and many of these are State Qualifier Tournaments. Soundview has a large active club of chess players that meets after school.
Sno-Isle Library "Best Book I Ever Read" Poster Contest
This is the annual event for third graders to celebrate National Children's Book Week. Sponsored by the Sno-Isle Regional Library System, the Friends of the Lynnwood Library, and the library media specialists of the Edmonds School District.
Edmonds Art Festival Art Contest
In Spring, this annual city festival allows Soundview students to enter their best work created over the course of the school year. Held in downtown Edmonds.
Washington State Drug Poster Contest
This annual arts contest allows Soundview students to use their artistic talents for the noble cause of creating effective anti-drug posters.
University of Washington Bookmark Contest
Soundview students enter their work in this contest sponsored by the University Bookstore to design attractive bookmarks for the patrons of the store, and are recognized for their work at a celebration.
Soundview Science and Engineering Fair
Students of all grades participate in this event to show what they know and to have fun with science and engineering. Classic contests have included building strong bridges out of toothpicks and racing cars powered by mousetraps.
