At Soundview, the Early Childhood program prepares your child for Kindergarten and their future in school by developing and building foundations in their physical, emotional, social and cognitive skills.
Our students develop high levels of creativity, self-expression, critical thinking and academic excellence through small class sizes, innovative programs and excellent, caring teachers.
Preschool
In Preschool it’s about plantings seeds of knowledge and routine in our three year olds. They have organized and structured themes and learning, but can be more flexible depending on students’ temperament and mood.
Themes are used with letters, numbers, colors, shapes, music, art, and other subjects in conjunction with their five senses to create a whole and thorough experience for the students. Students also develop their fine and gross motor skills, such as pencil grip and scissor skills.
Jr. Kindergarten
Jr. K is a continuation from Preschool. The four year olds work and build on most of the same skills. Themes in Jr. K are based on seasons and holidays, which are easily tied to social studies, science, art and teaching the students about the world – different cultures, communities and holiday origins.
Students are introduced to basic Singapore Math and teachers are able to work with individual students, as well as in a group.
By the End of the Year
The Preschool and Jr. Kindergarten programs offer your student:
▪ Saxon Phonics
▪ Center Time for Reading, Math and Science
▪ Music, Art & Spanish
▪ Chess
▪ Performances
▪ Library Time
▪ Field Trips
▪ Individual Attention and Group Work
▪ Movement & Hands-on Learning
In both Preschool and Jr. Kindergarten, students will have a foundation for Life Skills including good manners, listening, respect, waiting their turn, cause & effect, problem solving and communication.
At the completion of the Early Childhood program, students know about routines and are familiar with following a schedule, directions, and can be, work with and listen to others. Our students are starting to not only think, but offer up their own thoughts and ideas.
