Dear Parents and Students:
Thank you for your interest in Soundview School. The middle school years are an important time for our students and Soundview is focused on providing a learning environment designed to meet their unique needs. Small classes, caring teachers, open parent communication help families and students grow through adolescence. Our arts programs help them explore ways to express themselves communicate and solve problems and our rigorous IB programme prepares them for college prep courses in high school.
On this page you will find details about applying for Middle School (Grades 5 – 8). We best serve students who exhibit the following traits:
- Motivated to learn and are intellectually curious.
- Kindness, consideration and caring.
- Able to follow directions and exercise self-control.
- Display leadership abilities or are interested in being active participants in a community.
- Have a genuine interest in the arts, science, humanities, math and other academic areas.
- Have demonstrated skills that are at or above grade level at their current school.
The admissions committee evaluates students individually based on their application, parent questionnaire, student questionnaire, teacher recommendations, testing profile and transcripts, their visit to Soundview and overall fit with the school.
Admissions Checklist
Here are the steps to follow when applying to Soundview School. A printable version of this list is available on our forms page .
- Obtain admission information by visiting our forms page , or contacting our Admissions Director.
- Attend an Open House and/or a Tour of the school during school hours.
- Schedule or gather necessary tests and information.
- IQ test within the past three years (WPPSI-R or WISC-IV) or
- ISEE
(Independent School Entrance Exam) test results for entrance to grades
5 – 8. The ISEE is offered at sites around the Seattle area November –

- Request two (2) teacher/adult recommendations
from people who are not related to you and who know your child well.
Recommenders should return forms directly to the Soundview Admissions
office. Students will not be considered for admission without
recommendations.
- Submit completed admissions materials. Currently, applications are being accepted on a rolling basis for open spots for this year and next year.
Include:
- Application Form, Student Questionnaire and Parent Questionnaire.
- Application fee.
- Two (2) teacher/adult recommendations (these can be submitted by recommenders separately).
- ISEE results or IQ test within the past three years.
- Records from current school – request form enclosed (including discipline and any special service records).
- Any other helpful materials you might have (Independent testing, etc.).
- Schedule a student visit day with the Admission Office.
Notification letters will be sent out on, or around, March 31, 2009.
