Curriculum

Soundview offers a rigorous, project-based academic and arts curriculum that is specifically designed to meet the needs of bright and creative students. Teachers draw on a broad range of resources to develop student-centered, skill-focused activities. In addition to the core disciplines of reading, math, writing, science, and social studies, students have computer programming, drama, music, and visual art classes multiple times a week. Our international students gain confidence and knowledge through projects, experiments, concerts, presentations and exhibitions. With small class sizes, nurturing teachers and engaging students, International Students feel safe and a part of the community.

To transition International students into the culture and prepare them for their U.S. studies, Middle School International students also attend a special class that provides individual instruction. International students need more than just learning English through workbooks. Our dedicated teachers work with the individual and group to understand U.S. history, English language and culture.

Our students have had good success taking this combination of regular and special classes. Students have gone on to attend rigorous high schools and have been well prepared.

Special Programs

Includes music and drama productions, jazz band, international student program, project and science fairs, National History Day competition, Declamation contest, Soundview Arts Festival, outdoor education at the Olympic Park Institute, community service projects, student council, robotics, knitting, soccer, and student-initiated activities.

Community

Parents are asked to volunteer 50 hours over the course of each year by participating in the school auction, classroom activities, grounds maintenance, fundraising, and other projects. The Soundview Parent Association (SPA) works to support the students, faculty, parents, and programs of the school.
