Martina Adams, Spanish (Preschool-3rd Grade)
Señora Adams makes Spanish come alive for her students through interactive games, stories, puppet productions, songs and projects. A native of Mexico, Señora Adams received degrees in General Studies, Theology and Early Childhood Education before coming to the United States, where she has continued her studies in English and early childhood education.

Marilee Abramshe, Humanities
Ms. Abramshe, a recent transplant to the Pacific Northwest, arrived from New York this summer. She received her BA in American History from the State University of New York at Oswego, and earned an MS in Early Adolescent Education from the Bank Street College of Education. She holds New York State teacher certification in three areas (Middle School, Elementary, and Social Studies), and spent seven years teaching sixth-eight grade language arts and social studies in the Archdiocesan system there. She also has extensive experience as a trainer of teachers, and as a museum educator and tour guide.

Diana Burga, Spanish (4th-8th Grade)
Señorita Burga’s interest in Spanish language and culture began when she was born and raised in Madrid, Spain. Growing up in Madrid and spending summers in Peru sparked her passion for language and culture. Señorita Burga has a B.A from Sonoma State University in Art History and hold’s a California teaching credential and Master’s degree in Education with emphasize in Foreign Language from Whittier College. Señorita Burga is excited to be a part of the Soundview staff for the upcoming school year.

Ann Marie Caldwell, Drama
Miss Ann Marie received her BA in Theatre (minor in history), from the University of Puget Sound. She then completed a year-long Teaching Artist Apprenticeship with the Seattle Children’s Theatre. Before joining Soundview in 2007, she had spent three years as an independent Teaching Artist, working with children (from three year olds to high school students) on plays, in after-school drama programs, and at in-school residencies.

Edward Castro, Music (5th-8th Grade), Service Director
Dr. Castro’s education formally started at the Manhattan School of Music (Bachelor of Music), Yale University School of Music (Master of Music) and at the University of Washington (Doctor of Musical Arts) in trumpet performance. In addition to teaching, Dr. Castro has an active professional life as a performer and frequently plays with local orchestras and ensembles. He also regularly arranges music for the groups with which he plays. Dr. Castro has been a trumpet and brass instrumental coach for bands and orchestral ensembles for several Puget Sound area schools and organizations.

Nani Christensen, Junior Kindergarten
Ms. Nani moved to Washington in 2004 after living all of her life in Honolulu, Hawaii. She has four children and four grandchildren. She moved to Washington to take care of two of her grandchildren. Now that they are both in school, she has come back to teaching. Nani has a Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education from Butler University. Prior to moving to Washington, she worked for sixteen and a half years in the kindergarten program at Punahou School in Honolulu, a prestigious independent school in Hawaii.

Tim Cole – P.E., Athletic Director, Summer Programs Director
Mr. Cole graduated from Cedarville University with a BA in Elementary Education. He spent one year teaching English overseas in Seoul, Korea. He also taught 5th grade for two years at Kent View Elementary and formerly taught the Robot Workshop Camp during the summer at the Pacific Science Center. He has five years coaching experience including 2 years high school and 3 years college. He is a USATF level one certified track coach and a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Marilyn Fox, 1st Grade
Ms. Fox grew up in a large family and knew from a young age she wanted to be a teacher. Her teaching career began in public schools before coming to Soundview 3 years ago. Prior to receiving her MA in Education at Antioch University, she studied Children in Society, Children & Adolescence, and Child Psychology. She also has a degree in Commercial Photography. Marilyn is excited about the upcoming year.

Carolyn Guldberg, 3rd Grade
Mrs. Guldberg is intrigued by puzzles of all kinds. Whether figuring out how to answer a logic problem or where to go next in a story, Mrs. Guldberg loves nothing more than showing her students how to solve problems and puzzles. As a tutor with the Ringling Brothers, Barnum & Bailey Circus, Mrs. Guldberg spent a lot of time with puzzles and mysterious things. She also learned how to juggle, a skill she enjoys sharing with students. She received her B.A. in Writing from Johns Hopkins University and an M.A.T. from Tufts University. She holds elementary teaching certificates in both Massachusetts and Washington.

Laura Higgins, Music (Kindergarten-4th Grade)
Mrs. Higgins earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree at Northern Arizona University, and did her graduate work in clarinet performance and conducting at California State University Long Beach. She also studied with professors from The Royal College of Music during a year’s residence in London. Mrs. Higgins’ teaching experience includes directing private and public elementary, middle, and high school instrumental programs; adult, youth, and children’s church music ensembles; and marching music instruction with high school and independent programs. She also enjoys stage managing entertainment events, and has worked for Disneyland Entertainment and Drum Corps International.

Peter Hodges, 4th Grade Humanities, Primary & Middle School Section Head
Dr. Hodges received his Doctorate in Teaching and Learning from the University of Southern California (USC), a Master’s degree in School Administration from San Jose State University, a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education Curriculum from the same institution, and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from San Francisco State University. He has taught in classrooms from preschool through college, including teaching graduate students for USC, Chapman College, and City University. During his career, he has led schools to local, state and national recognition through an emphasis on staff development and curriculum building, serving both public schools and as the curriculum director at Lakeside, an independent school. Dr. Hodges is a recipient of the National Educator of the Year Award from the Milken Family Foundation, among other career recognitions.

Amy Hodgman, 2nd Grade
Mrs. Hodgman received her B.A. in Sociology from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. She also holds an M.S. in Education from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Mrs. Hodgman taught 4th grade for one year in a Chicago Public School. She then taught 3rd and 4th grade for 3 years in New Haven, CT. Mrs. Hodgman has a dog named Harper who she adores hiking and going to the dog park with. She also likes creating new recipes in the kitchen and is very excited to join the Soundview community.

Li-Ting Hung, Art
Ms. Hung is a native of Taiwan (ROC), but was educated in the US as well. She received a B.S. in Earth Science and Geography from Bridgewater State in Massachusetts, an M.A. in Human Geography from West Virginia University, and an M.S. in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati. She has worked as a visual and language arts teacher at Victoria Academy, Elementary and Junior High School, in Toulou, Taiwan, and, in Seattle, she directed the Montlake Art Program at McGilvra and Lowell Elementary Schools. She is a sculptor and often participates in art shows around the Seattle area.

Neena Mathew, Kindergarten, Early Childhood Section Head
Mrs. Mathew was born in Ethiopia and grew up there, in India, and in Nigeria. She holds two degrees from Mahatma Gandhi University of India: a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Science with minors in Chemistry and Zoology, and an M.S. in Child Development. She also earned a Master of Education degree in Early Childhood Education at Alabama A&M University. After teaching Kindergarten in India, she moved to the US where she served for two years as the lead teacher in a multi-age classroom (ages 2.5 through 5) at Country Day School in Madison, Alabama. This is her seventh year at Soundview.

Devin McClain, Kindergarten
Mr. Devin received his B.S. in Journalism from the University of Oregon, where he also minored in Computer Information Technology. He is has taken many additional courses in Elementary Education from Seattle University. Mr. Devin has experience working with children ages 4-16 in Easter Seal camps and sports camps, as well as coaching children 5-13 in basketball, baseball and soccer. He has also traveled extensively throughout Europe and taught in China for 3 months.

Kari Jo Rohr, Preschool
Mrs. Rohr has many years of experience in a variety of Child Care/Teaching Programs, including numerous years teaching early childhood gymnastics. This year Mrs. Rohr will be working full time with the Preschool Students. She enjoys watching children grow and change, encouraging them to be independent thinkers to make choices and discover more about their world. She believes that as preschool is a child’s first introduction to formal education, her job as a teacher is to provide a warm environment where children can explore, experiment, create, and learn through developmentally appropriate hands-on experiences.

Brad Scanlon, 1st Grade
Mr. Scanlon received his Bachelors of Arts degree from Metropolitan State College of Denver, and began his teaching career over 20 years ago working with children in Boulder, Colorado. There he worked with children involved with the criminal justice system, children with problems relating to anti-social and delinquent behaviors. Realizing that he could have greater impact working with younger kids, he obtained his Masters of Arts in Teaching and his elementary teaching endorsement from Concordia University in Portland, Oregon. He holds elementary teaching certificates in Washington and Oregon.

Michael Thomas, Science
Mr. Thomas received his BS in atmospheric science and has studied marine science and geology at the University of Miami Florida. He's originally from Colorado, but lived a few years in other parts of the world including Nanjing and Beijing China, Tokyo Japan, Scotland, and 11 months aboard different ships and research vessels. He is working on his masters of education at Seattle Pacific University and plans to follow that with a masters in Geology in the next few years. Mr. Thomas has most recently been employed as a science and math teacher for an Archdiocese middle school in Denver. He's also worked as an SAT math preparation counselor and has extensive experience working with kindergarten through second grade on developing reading skills. Mr. Thomas and his brothers started and run a video production company and he is a trained Scuba Divemaster and student instructor.

Valerie Stein, Library Media Specialist
Mrs. Stein received her B.A. degree in Liberal Studies from Oregon State University and holds a Library Technician Certificate from Highline Community College. In addition, she has studied and taught fiber arts and holds certificates in Design, Embroidery and Weaving from the City and Guilds of London. She has taught weaving in continuing education programs at Oregon State as well as North Seattle and Edmonds Community Colleges. Mrs. Stein worked for several years as an educational assistant at the elementary level in the Everett school district where her focus was on reading, language arts and math, doing both individual and small group tutoring, as well as coordinating services for ESL students and their families.

Matt Taylor, 2nd Grade
Mr. Taylor received his B.A. in English Literature from Georgia State University as well as a degree in Recording Arts from Full Sail Center for the Recording Arts. He also holds a M.S. in Childhood Education from Brooklyn College. Mr. Taylor taught 5th grade for 4 years in Brooklyn, NY. He is the recipient of two Americorps awards for community service. Previously Mr. Taylor worked recording voiceovers as an audio engineer with educational companies such as Scholastic, Inc. and Oxford University Press.

Robbee Tonubbee, Math
Ms. Tonubbee grew up in a small town in Southeastern Oklahoma. She attended Bryn Mawr College and received a B.A. in Mathematics before going on to Southeastern Oklahoma State University to obtain a M.Ed in Secondary Mathematics. After six years teaching middle and high school math in Oklahoma – and serving as a foster parent to more than fifteen children – she decided to explore education outside the U.S., moving to the Bahamas to teach at a private school. Her love for Math has led her to tutor students in all Math subjects as well as the ACT, SAT, SSAT, and the BJCE (Bahamas Junior Certification Exams). She is delighted to be back in the States and in the Pacific Northwest.

Stephanie Wallace, Early Childhood
Wishing to make a career change, Mrs. Wallace returned to school after 30 years, obtaining an Associate's degree as a Paraeducator. Her first position after graduation was with the Charles Wright Academy in Tacoma (one of Soundview's PNAIS peer schools) where she worked with a Kindergarten class. From 2003-2007, she was employed by the Steilacoom and Shoreline School Districts.
